Alliance Francaise French Film Festival 2021

Alliance Francaise French Film Festival 2021

Presented by Peugeot, the Alliance Francaise Film Festival returns to Palace and Luna Palace Cinemas for its 32nd season. The Festival films will be screening at Palace Raine Square, The Windsor, Luna on SX, Luna Leederville and Camelot Outdoor Cinema from 10th March until 7th April.

This year there are 37 feature films, biopics and documentaries being presented, with the majority of them having International or Australian premieres; there will also be a selection of family and children’s titles.  Whilst most of the films are in French with English subtitles, there are a couple of French/English or multi-language films. From comedies and dramas, to the classic 1960 movie “Breathless”, this eclectic selection of films is certain to have something for everyone.

The festival will open with a premiere screening of the film Eiffel, the story of the engineer Gustavo Eiffel and the passion and brilliance behind the creation of France’s greatest cultural icon.

We were invited along to the Palace Raine Square to celebrate the this years festival with a screening of one of the Australian Premiere feature films from this year’s lineup, La Daronne  “The Godmother”.

The film is a comedy/drama starring the effervescent Isabelle Huppert.

Huppert plays a widowed middle-aged police interpreter Patience Portefeux, who, whilst supporting both her children and paying the fees on the care home for her mother finds herself constantly struggling to meet her financial obligations. Armed with her insider knowledge of the law, Patience switches sides and reinvents herself as a drug lord.
