PERMANENTLY CLOSED – Bay 33, Waterman’s Bay

Bay 33 has a great location, it is right across the road from Waterman’s Bay on West Coast Drive. With plenty of outside tables, it is a real treat to visit Bay 33, enjoy a meal and get in some great people-watching There is almost a non-stop parade of cyclists, locals out for a stroll and dog-walkers along the West Coast walkway including a dog being given a ride on a children’s scooter on the morning we visited.

There are also plenty of inside tables and we snagged one by the front windows for our weekend breakfast.

Prices are on par with other cafes and restaurants along this stretch of road bordered by the Indian Ocean. My husband and I both chose the Big Breakfast. Bacon, sausage, mushrooms, tomato, hash brown and two eggs served with two slices of toast ($19.50). If the Big Breakfast is just too big for your taste there is also Bacon and eggs on toast ($15), Eggs on toast ($13) or even Scottish kippers and eggs ($18). Spicy vegetarian omelette ($19), Porridge with fruit and nuts ($15) or a pancake stack ($15) are also available.

Our Big Breakfast was good – the sausage was tasty, hash browns crisp, tomato and mushrooms cooked well and eggs prepared exactly as we had ordered. I was slightly disappointed in the bacon – perhaps the café has changed its supplier – not nearly as good as our last breakfast here.

Service is efficient and staff are generally friendly especially Gary who goes out of his way to chat to customers and get to know them.

Bay 33 is licensed and also does a very good lunch but dinner service stopped a few years ago.

On-street parking is available close-by with a couple of ACROD spaces and there is a small car park behind the building.
