SUMMARY:Orient Line: Australia's Link @ Dordaak Kepup Library
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating the Australian Heritage Festival.\n\n\nFor over a century\, the Orient Line was more than just a shipping company; it was a lifeline between the United Kingdom and Australia. From the early days of the mail contract to the arrival of the iconic post-war liners\, the Orient Line defined the standards of travel on the long run “Down Under.” \nJoin Chris Frame to explore the evolution of the fleet—from the sturdy pioneers of the late 19th century to mid-century masterpieces like Orcades\, Oronsay\, and the revolutionary Oriana. \nWe will examine how the company transitioned from transporting tons of mail and frozen cargo to becoming a leader in luxury cruising. Join us as we look back at the sleek corn-coloured hulls that were once a familiar sight in Australian ports and discover how the Orient Line helped bridge the gap between two sides of the world. \nChris Frame Bio \nChris Frame is an Australian maritime historian\, author\, and lecturer known for his accessible storytelling about ocean liners and passenger‑ship history. His passion began in childhood and grew during his first voyage on QE2\, inspiring him to co‑author QE2: A Photographic Journey in 2008. He has since written over a dozen maritime history books\, appeared as an expert on BBC\, CNN\, Channel 5\, and ABC Radio\, and is a regular speaker on cruise ships\, in museums\, and at public events. Chris also runs a popular YouTube channel and co‑hosts a cruise‑industry podcast with Rachelle Cross. \nTarget audience: Adults \nFREE: bookings essential \nPlease cancel your tickets or advise one of our team if your plans change and you are unable to attend this event. \nDiscover other Heritage Festival activities at hmawanneroo.eventbrite.com
