DESCRIPTION:Each year the Community Citizen of the Year Awards\, run by Auspire – Australia Day Council WA\, give local governments around the state a fantastic opportunity to acknowledge the positive contribution of people within their community. \nThese prestigious awards celebrate individuals and organisations who are engaged and committed to our local area and have made significant contribution to their community during the past year\, or those who have given exceptional service over a sustained period. \nThe City of Canning would like to take this opportunity to encourage our local community to participate by nominating someone they feel worthy of these awards. The award winners will be announced at the City of Canning’s Australia Day Family Fun Day event on Tuesday 26 January 2027 at the Shelley Foreshore. \nThe Community Citizen of the Year Awards have been recognising local heroes for more than 20 years and are made up of four categories: \n\nCommunity Citizen of the Year (for individuals over 16 years)\nYoung Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals aged 16-30 years)\nSenior Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals aged 65 years and over)\nActive Citizenship (for community groups or events)\n\nThe award recipients will be judged to have shown community engagement and: \n\nsignificant contribution to the local community\ndemonstrate leadership on a community issue resulting in the enhancement of community life\na significant initiative which has brought about positive change and added value to community life\ninspiring qualities as a role model for the community.\n\nNominations for the 2027 Community Citizen of the Year Awards open on Tuesday 1 September 2026 until Saturday 31 October 2026 and can be submitted at www.citizenshipawards.com.au/nominate . \nWho Can Nominate?\nAnyone within a community with local knowledge of that community and its active citizens may nominate including: \n\nMembers of the public.\nIndividuals on behalf of a group or organisation.\nLocal council staff and Elected Members\n\nFor Further Information\nFor further information\, please contact the City Major Events Team on 1300 422 664 or events@canning.wa.gov.au.

This regular meeting will be for sharing\, socialising\, gardening\, learning\, eating and growing together! \nGuided by the wonderfully knowledgeable staff at EcoHub\, gardeners are welcome of all abilities and experience. Help maintain a productive patch\, reap the yummy benefits\, learn new skills and meet lifelong friends. \n \nPlease register\, as spaces are limited! \n \nLength \n2 hours\, casual come and go. \nLocation \nOutside in Boorong Garden \nRequirements \nWeather appropriate clothing \nType of event and expectations \nAdult Social Event – Activities are largely self guided with an emphasis on socialising and enjoying each others company. Guests are expected to be respectful to facilitators/staff and attendees alike. This event is unlikely to be suitable for children. \nAccessibility \nOutdoor on hard surfaces. Most garden beds are raised ~70cm. \nAccessible parking is available at front of EcoHub\, rooms are located on multiple levels via a ramp and toilets are available within the venue.
