SUMMARY:Not a Book Club — with Dr Marion Kickett
DESCRIPTION:Low commitment. High reward. Totally not a Book Club… \nThe City of Perth Library’s Not a Book Club is an author in-conversation series for readers who love stories\, ideas\, and conversation—without the homework. \nHosted by the indefatigable Will Yeoman\, this new series brings a mix of Western Australian favourites and touring authors for exclusive in-conversation events throughout 2026. With a blend of free and ticketed sessions\, there’s something for everyone. \nOur third event features Dr Marion Kickett discussing her new book\, Nidja Boodjar Danjoo – Here on Country Together. Deeply personal\, the book is a reflection and collection of stories from living on the York Native Reserve. Dr Kickett interviews both survivors who grew up and lived on the reserve\, and those whose parents or relatives lived there. \nBelieved to have been a traditional meeting ground and camping place used by Dr Kickett’s ancestors\, the area was later designated as an Aboriginal reserve. Under policies such as the Aborigines Act 1905 (WA)\, her grandfather was forcibly relocated there.

SUMMARY:TRIBUTE | 2026 Collection Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Discover an exhibition of artworks that explore the people\, places and moments that make us who we are. \nIntroducing TRIBUTE –a showcase of artworks from the City of Joondalup art collection that pay homage to the things that shape us. You’ll find stories of community and everyday life\, alongside references to popular culture\, portraiture and the environments we live in. Together\, the works offer a look at the experiences and memories we carry with us. \nAt the centre of the exhibition is a newly commissioned artwork by Western Australian artist Tarryn Gill. Inspired by her upbringing in Joondalup and her connection to the West Coast Calisthenics Club\, the work reflects on girlhood\, community\, and the role of sport and recreation in shaping identity and belonging. \nAlongside Gill’s work\, TRIBUTE features a range of talented artists from WA and beyond\, each bringing their own perspective to the idea of tribute. \nFeatured artists \n\nAbdul Rahman-Abdullah\nBruce & Nicole Slatter\nChristopher Hummell\nElham Eshragian-Haakansson\nEmma Buswell\nGillian Treichel\nJack Ball\nJohn Prince Siddon\nJudy Rogers\nJulie Dowling\nLea Taylor\nMatthew Hunt\nMeeyakba Shane Pickett\nMike Singe\nMinaxi May\nOlga Cironis\nPaul Kaptein\nPerdita Phillips\nPip Lewi\nRebecca Dagnall\nRodney Glick & Lynnette Voevodin\nSusanna Castleden\nTane Andrews\nTarryn Gill\nTeelah George\nTom Freeman\nTrevor Bly
