SUMMARY:Old Blythewood: 50 Years of Sharing Stories
DESCRIPTION:Community Open Day to mark 50 years of the National Trust conserving\, celebrating and sharing Old Blythewood’s stories\n\n\nOld Blythewood: 50 Years of Sharing Stories\n \nOld Blythewood on Bindjareb Noongar Country was first open to the public by the National Trust in April 1976\, after the house was gifted to us by the McLarty family in 1972. Join us as we celebrate 50 years of sharing stories of the evolution of this special place overlooking the banks of the Bilya Maadjit (Murray River). \nReflect on the stunning natural environment that served as a farming\, hunting\, and gathering spot for the Bindjareb Noongar people for tens of thousands of years. Explore the heritage house built by John and Mary Anne McLarty in 1860 that was not only the family farm and home\, but a thriving community business. And discover how the National Trust has been conserving\, celebrating and sharing Old Blythewood’s stories so that future generations can continue to enjoy it. \nThis family friendly community event will be enhanced by music from the WA Youth Jazz Orchestra (WAYJO) with coffee and treats available for purchase from local favourite Black Velvet and Honey. \nOld Blythewood is located 4 km south of Pinjarra and is a one-hour drive south of Perth. \nAccessibility \nIf you have any access requirements that we should be aware of\, please let us know during the registration process or get in touch with National Trust of Western Australia via phone (08) 9321 6088 or email engagement@ntwa.com.au.

SUMMARY:Create a Rag Rug (for 13 – 25yrs)
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to create a rag rug from old textiles.\n\n\nRag weaving is a wonderful way to take old textiles and give them new life. Come to this workshop to learn how to create your very own rag rug that’s truly unique. \nIf you have old sheets/doona covers to share\, please bring them to the workshop and learn how to repurpose them into a rag rug. \nWe will be using hula hoops for the weaving frame\, so if you have a hula hoop at home\, please bring it along. Or check if your local op shop has hula hoops for sale. We have some to share if you don’t have your own hoop. \nThis workshop is for young people aged 13 to 25 years. \nThis workshop is hosted by the City of Canning in partnership with the Australian Association for Environmental Education WA Chapter. \nThis workshop has been supported by a grant from the Government of Western Australia and the Waste Authority. It responds to Australia’s growing textile waste problem by empowering young people in Canning with practical knowledge and skills to challenge fast fashion and choose sustainable alternatives such as upcycling\, swapping and second‑hand shopping.

SUMMARY:LIFT THE LID WALK for Mental Health - SCARBOROUGH W.A. 2026
DESCRIPTION:LIFT THE LID WALK for Mental Health will get you walking and get us all talking while we raise vital funds for Australian Rotary Health.\n\n\n\n\n\n“ABOUT THE WALK” \nWe are very excited to host our 2nd annual LIFT THE LID WALK for Mental Health event in SCARBOROUGH. \nThe “point of difference” is that the walk is not a race. It is a family occasion offering an organised “fun” walk. \nThe inaugural Walk was held in October 2016 in Mooloolaba and has grown to include hundreds of participants and the introduction of a national series in several states and we are very proud to say we have raised in excess of $470\,000 so far but we’re not stopping here. \n \nPROJECT BENEFITS \nThis is a great project because it: \n1. Raises much needed funds for ARH Mental Health Research – 100% of funds raised go directly to research. \n2. Offers an opportunity for the community to come together and identify with those suffering from mental health issues and start a conversation. To know they are not alone. \n3. It provides an outlet for those suffering from mental health issues. For example\, every year there have been families and friends wearing their own special t-shirts honouring a loved one who has been lost as a result of a mental health issue. \n4 Will bring visitors to our area which is good for local businesses and tourism. \n \n\n\nIMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS : Release and Indemnity \n1. I am aware and acknowledge that the Lift The Lid Walk (the Event) involves inherent risks\, including the risk of injury to life or death and damage to property and in undertaking such activities\, I do so at my own risk. \n2. I am also aware that it is a condition of participation in the Event that Rotary\, its officers and employees\, agents and volunteers are released by me from all liability howsoever arising from injury or damage to both property and person howsoever caused (whether fatal or otherwise) arising out of my participation in the Event whether or not such injury or damage is due to any negligent act\, breach of duty\, default and/or omission on the part of Rotary\, its officers and employees\, agents or volunteers. \n3. I indemnify Rotary\, its officers and employees\, agents and volunteers against all loss\, damage and expenses (including legal costs on a solicitor and own client basis) arising out of or in connection with any claims\, actions\, proceedings or demands of any kind arising directly or indirectly as a consequence of my participation in the Event. \n4. I acknowledge and agree that my participation in the Event is as a consequence of my own free will and desire and that I have read and understood the above warning\, release\, and indemnity. \n5. I warrant that I am 18 years of age or older and am lawfully able to enter into this above release and indemnity or\, in the event that I am a minor\, I have the permission of my legal guardian to participate in the Event and that my legal guardian has agreed to adhere to the terms of the indemnity \nIf the participant is a minor: \nI as the legal guardian of the Participant consent to him/her participating in the Event. \n· I release Rotary\, its officers and employees\, agents and volunteers from all liability\, howsoever arising\, from injury or damage to both property and person howsoever caused (whether fatal or otherwise) arising out of the Participant’s participation in the Event whether or not such injury or damage is due to any negligent act\, breach of duty\, default and/or omission on the part of Rotary\, its officers and employees\, agents or volunteers. \n· I indemnify Rotary\, its officers and employees\, agents and volunteers against all loss\, damage and expenses (including legal costs on a solicitor and own client basis) arising out of or in connection with any claims\, actions\, proceedings or demands of any kind arising directly or indirectly as a consequence of the Participant’s participation in the Event \n \nIn the EVENT we did get cancelled because of weather or COVID. \n \nJust in case the current walk format is cancelled because of extreme weather conditions or a return of COVID\, we’ll still be going ahead just differently. We’d love you to get out on the day of the event and walk and talk with us. We will shift the WALK online and do it virtually! We encourage you to share it on socials while adhering to any necessary restrictions. Given we are raising vital funds for mental health research\, and it’s honestly never been more important\, your ticket registration donation will make a huge difference to what Australian Rotary Health research funding can achieve. Your shiny new t-shirt will still be waiting for you to collect and we’ll keep you up to date of a safe place and time for that to happen via email in the event we can’t go ahead on the day.
