SUMMARY:National Reconciliation Week Memoirs Online - June Oscar AO
DESCRIPTION:Join us online for an evening of truth-telling\, leadership\, and deep reflection as we welcome June Oscar AO to the Reconciliation Memoirs stage. \nA proud Bunuba woman from Fitzroy Crossing\, June Oscar AO is an Indigenous rights advocate\, community health and welfare champion\, filmmaker\, and former Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner at the Australian Human Rights Commission (2017–2025). \nHer leadership continues to influence national conversations on justice\, women’s rights\, language revitalisation\, and community empowerment. Streaming live from Hackett Hall\, this in-depth conversation will explore June’s life’s work\, the challenges and triumphs of advocacy\, and her vision for the future of reconciliation in Western Australia. \nHer story contributes to a powerful written legacy crafted by author Victoria Laurie\, whose series of five memoirs is becoming an essential record of the reconciliation movement in WA. SUMMARY:Not a Book Club — with Dr Marion Kickett
DESCRIPTION:Low commitment. High reward. Totally not a Book Club… \nThe City of Perth Library’s Not a Book Club is an author in-conversation series for readers who love stories\, ideas\, and conversation—without the homework. \nHosted by the indefatigable Will Yeoman\, this new series brings a mix of Western Australian favourites and touring authors for exclusive in-conversation events throughout 2026. With a blend of free and ticketed sessions\, there’s something for everyone. \nOur third event features Dr Marion Kickett discussing her new book\, Nidja Boodjar Danjoo – Here on Country Together. Deeply personal\, the book is a reflection and collection of stories from living on the York Native Reserve. Dr Kickett interviews both survivors who grew up and lived on the reserve\, and those whose parents or relatives lived there. \nBelieved to have been a traditional meeting ground and camping place used by Dr Kickett’s ancestors\, the area was later designated as an Aboriginal reserve. Under policies such as the Aborigines Act 1905 (WA)\, her grandfather was forcibly relocated there.

SUMMARY:Musos in the Mall - Celebrating Original Music
DESCRIPTION:Musos in the Mall is back — and bigger\, louder\, and better than ever! \nForrest Place comes alive as the City of Perth\, supported by Activate Perth\, presents original WA music and artists—bringing a high-energy celebration of local talent to the heart of the CBD. \nGet ready for an unmissable afternoon and evening of live music\, great food\, and city vibes as we bring the mall to life with sound and atmosphere. \nLine-up \n5:10pm – Sleepy Soph\n5:40pm – Navy June\n6:30pm – Hey So Hungry \nSleepy Soph\nSleepy Soph is an Albany-raised\, Perth-based singer-songwriter who captures the bittersweet yearning of youth through dreamy melodies and heartfelt lyrics.\nHer sound blends indie folk and alternative pop\, that explore themes of nostalgia\, inner conflict\, and love. Releasing her debut EP ‘lucky’ in November of last year\, sleepy soph creates a soft\, cutesie atmosphere for those navigating life’s transitions and lost in daydreams of the past. \nNavy June\nNavy June are a Boorloo-based five piece carving out their place in Western Australia’s indie scene since 2025. Blending the grit of grunge with the warmth of soul\, their sound channels the nostalgic energy of the ’90s while reimagining it for the present day. With the recent addition of a second guitarist\, Navy June’s live performance has evolved into a heavier sound\, richer in texture\, more explosive in dynamics\, and impossible to look away from. Drawing inspiration from an unusual blend of artists – Fiona Apple\, Hole\, and Fleetwood Mac – Navy June create music that feels both familiar and fresh. Their debut single\, ’Slip’ garnered over 10\,000 streams across platforms and regular airplay on local radio. ‘Please’ and ‘Mister’\, their latest has earned high praise and equivalent streams\, with ‘mister’ placing #1 for both Indie/Alternative and Rock/Metal on Amrap charts and #6 for national radio. This alongside a steady program of live shows (35 + in 2025 and 10 in 2026 to date)\, local festival inclusions and major supports is fuelling the rise of Navy June’s industry recognition and rapidly growing fanbase. \nHey So Hungry\nHey So Hungry are a four-piece band who came together in 2022 creating indie pop/indie rock from Perth\, WA. Formed in 2022\, the band have quickly built a reputation for their energetic live shows\, catchy hooks\, and emotionally charged songwriting. \nBlending influences from The Rions\, Middle Kids\, Spacey Jane and Florence and The Machine\, Hey So Hungry sit amongst Australia’s rising music scene while creating a sound and energy of their own. Their latest single\, “Another Lover\,” showcases their ability for creating infectious melodies with a powerful upbeat groove. In 2024\, the band received a WAM Song of the Year award for their previous single “Nocturnal.” \nSince forming\, the band have shared stages with numerous artists\, including King Stingray\, South Summit\, The Grogans\, and Sly Withers. They’ve also performed alongside Old Mervs at a sold-out show at the Freo Arts Centre\, and most recently supported The Rions on the WA leg of their tour. \nWith strong momentum behind them and a growing fanbase\, Hey So Hungry are fast becoming one of Perth’s most exciting emerging acts to watch. \nVisit profile \n\nWhat’s on \n\nLive original WA music\nPop-up bar\nFood trucks\nGood vibes in the city\n\nAbout Activate Perth \nActivate Perth is a nonprofit organisation focused on revitalising Perth’s CBD by transforming underutilised spaces into vibrant community hubs.
