If you are a cat lover then a visit to The Cat Cafe Perth, or should we say Purrth, is a must!
What is a Cat Cafe?
A cat cafe is a themed cafe with the attraction of a variety of cats that can be watched and played with. Visitors to the cafe pay a cover fee, which is usually by the hour. You could say a cat cafe can be seen as a form of supervised indoor pet rental!
The world’s first cat cafe, “Cat Flower Garden“, opened its doors in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1998. Since then Cat Cafes have become hugely popular across the world with The Cat Cafe being the first of its kind in Perth.
The Cat Cafe Perth
The Cat Cafe Perth opened 4 years ago on Rokeby Road in Subiaco and is home to 12, very friendly, rescue cats all from the Cat Haven. Part proceeds of everything that The Cat Cafe sells go to supporting the Cat Haven.
Entry to The Cat Cafe is $15 for an hour session. Whilst walk-ins may be available on the day it is advisable to book your preferred session online in advance via the online booking portal on their website.
Each session accommodates 12 people and runs every hour during cafe opening times. The cats are most likely to be playful in the first morning or last evening sessions and relaxed for sleepy pats in the middle sessions.
You are asked to arrive 10 minutes early for your session time so that you have ample time to purchase any coffee or cake that you wish to take into the lounge with you. Trust us, there is a delicious array of cakes available that you will definitely want to sample!

On entry into the Cat Cafe lounge, you’ll need to pass through an airlock that is designed to keep the residents safe from escaping into the outside world. Here in the airlock, you’ll be asked to take off your shoes, store your belonging and sanitise your hands. You’ll also be given a brief from the lounge host on what you can and can’t do in the cat lounge.
Once you are in the cosy lounge you are free to pat, brush and play with all of the friendly residents. One thing you cannot do is pick the cats up for a cuddle.
All the cats have their very own unique personalities. We absolutely fell in love with Remmy who would happily sit all day on a willing human’s back!
If you are lucky you might get to see Mr Fox perform one of his party tricks. He will shake your end in exchange for some yummy tuna!
Alternative Sessions
If you want to add an extra element to your visit to The Cat Cafe you can purchase one of their ‘Board Games with Cats‘ sessions which is $25 and includes two hours in The Cat Lounge, plus board games such as Cat Bingo, Unstable Unicorns, Trash Pandas, Harry Potter Codenames, Ultimate Werewolf, Uno and Jenga.
Or how about Meditation with cats? The fortnightly session runs on Thursdays 7pm – 8pm with Carolyn Trethewey is a meditation teacher and life coach with a background in herbal medicine, nutritional medicine, Reiki and Animal Reiki. Cats live in the moment: through sharing meditation with them they can (and will!) help us to do the same.  Let them teach you how to let go of worries and distractions so you can embrace feelings of gratitude + peace.
