Aqua Skills 55+, a practical and engaging 4-week program designed to help adults aged 55 and over build confidence, stay safe around water and maintain a healthy, independent and active lifestyle through essential aquatic safety skills.
Older Australians are sadly overrepresented in drowning statistics. Over the past decade, 736 older adults have drowned, with 115 lives lost in 2024/25 alone. This is a 55% increase on the 10-year average. Older adults represent only 16% of the population, yet they account for 26% of all drowning fatalities.
This program addresses a vital need in the community and aims to remove any barriers to participation by covering all associated costs with participation.
