Food for Cockatoos: Planting Event

Ngoolarks (Carnaby’s cockatoos) urgently need more food. Most black cockatoo foraging habitat around Perth has already been lost, and more is being cleared every week. This is driving their decline towards extinction. To help save Perth’s Ngoolarks, alongside having your say, perhaps the number one thing people can do is volunteer with a specialist native plant revegetation team, to help put more “food in the ground” for the birds.
Meet in Piney Lakes Reserve at the Black Cockatoo Habitat Restoration Site located here. All volunteers must sign in and out – if you arrive late or leave early please make sure to find a staff member to sign in/out.
If the carpark off Leach Hwy is full, there is another carpark near the Piney Lakes Sensory Playground off Murdoch Drive.
This event is suitable for all ages.
Please bring:
- Your own gloves
- A water bottle
- A snack
- Hat, raincoat (or other weather appropriate clothing)
- Enclosed shoes, long pants and long sleeves required
Restrictions and considerations:
- All ages, abilities and levels of experience are welcome, however children must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult at all times.
- The closest public toilets will be at EcoHub (a 10 minute walk from the planting site) or Piney Lakes Sensory Playground (a 15 minute walk from the planting site).
