My go-to special occasion restaurant? Well, I have a few, but Swanbourne’s Shorehouse is definitely in my top 5.ย Previously The Naked Fig (a nod to the nearby nudie beach), The Shorehouse is a popular place to meet friends by the ocean for an up-market meal.ย Sitting under the yellow striped umbrellas on the deck, with a tipple or two is a joy.
As well as it being my birthday, we took a friend visiting from overseas for lunch to the quintessentially West Aussie spot; she was impressed with the ocean view and also enjoyed the classy ambiance inside. With traditional tables and booths, as well as bench seats on the deck, The Shorehouse caters for everyone.
Many would agree that The Shorehouse wine and cocktail list is one of Perth’s very best. The list, is more like a novel, so there’s no excuse not to find your perfect drop. Pretty sure I did. I fell head over heels for a Denmark made Run Free Chardonay by Singlefile Wines. I’m a big Chardonay lover and this one now ranks amongst my favourites.
The menu is spesh, and favourites like the crisp buttermilk chicken are always there to greet me. With snack-type share dishes, โSmallhouse’ share dishes (or suitable for a starter or light lunch) and โBighouseโ dishes there’s plenty to mix and match. We chose a few dishes from the Smallhouse menu to share as entree. My go to buttermilk chicken, served with pickled coleslaw, ricotta salata and lashings of yoghurt sauce is a must. The charred chorizo with whipped goat’s curd was full of smoky, creamy flavours too.
We went solo for mains. I enjoyed perfectly cooked lamb cooked on the josper (charcoal oven), so much so I didn’t take much care with my photo! Served up with creamy mash, wilted greens and jus – it was perfect eating on a crisp autumn day.
The view is excellent and can be seen from every table in the restaurant. We were on a raised booth, ensuring the view wasn’t obstructed, but we did have to remember to take care with the step when exiting!ย The service is excellent, very on the ball.
For dessert I even got a ‘happy birthday” plate up with the apricot and orange blossom gelato bar (with pistachio and raspberry), without anyone requesting it. The staff must have noticed me open a present and passed it onto their pastry chef. A nice touch that was really appreciated and made my lunch all the more special.
There’s plenty of parking available behind The Shorehouse. This must have been my fifth visit to Shorehouse and it honestly gets better each time. Kudos to the kitchen and front of house teams.
