The Bassendean Hotel

The Bassendean Hotel – A Beautifully Restored, Family‑Friendly Favourite in the Heart of Bassendean

Bassendean Hotel

If you’re looking for a welcoming, easygoing spot to enjoy a meal with the grandkids — and even bring the family dog along — The Bassendean Hotel is one of Perth’s best all‑ages venues. Affectionately known as “The Basso”, this beautifully restored neighbourhood pub blends heritage charm with modern comfort, creating a space that feels both nostalgic and fresh.

Bassendean Hotel

Since first opening its doors in 1930, The Basso has been a cornerstone of the local community. Its recent transformation has elevated it into a go‑to destination for families, seniors, and locals who simply want a relaxed place to gather, eat and unwind.

A Warm, Character‑Filled Venue

Step inside and you’ll immediately notice the thoughtful restoration work. Original timber beams, exposed brickwork, pressed tin ceiling remnants and old fireplaces have been lovingly revealed, giving the venue a rich sense of history. Historic photographs line the walls, and each room has its own personality — from cosy lounges to bright, airy dining spaces.

Whether you’re settling in for a casual lunch, celebrating a birthday, or catching up with friends, there’s a comfortable corner for every occasion.

Perfect for Grandchildren: A Purpose‑Built Playground

Bassendean Hotel

One of the biggest drawcards for families is the large, gated Playground located right beside the leafy courtyard. It’s designed with local flora, fauna and history in mind, and includes:

  • A tall climbing tower with enclosed slide
  • Sandpit
  • Chalk‑friendly wall space
  • Plenty of room to explore and play

The Playground is fully fenced, making it easy for grandparents to relax while still keeping an eye on little ones. The courtyard’s picnic‑style tables are ideal for family groups, and the easy flow between dining and play areas means the kids can burn off energy while adults enjoy a meal or drink.

The children’s menu is another thoughtful touch — familiar favourites presented with care, and the usual kids menu of spaghetti, burgers, nuggets etc.. to keep young diners happy and engaged.

High chairs are available, and the mix of indoor and outdoor seating makes pram access simple.

As an extra treat the kids and adults can order Fresh Served Ice Cream, Fairy Floss and Milkshakes from a little kiosk inside the garden area.

Dog‑Friendly Outdoor Spaces

The Basso is also a great spot to bring the family dog. The courtyard welcomes well‑behaved dogs, making it a lovely option for multigenerational outings where the furry family member comes too. With shade, space and a relaxed vibe, it’s an easy place to enjoy a long lunch without needing to leave your pet at home.

Food, Drinks & Easy Ordering

Adults are well catered for with a menu built around seasonal produce, classic pub favourites and modern share plates. Whether you’re craving a hearty roast, a wood‑fired style pizza or something lighter, there’s plenty to choose from.

Bars are dotted throughout the venue, and you can even order from your phone at the table — a huge help when you’re juggling grandkids or simply prefer to stay seated.

During our visit I had the Low Gluten Calamari and Aioli, perhfectly cooked!

Our friends chose the Sunday Roast, because why not!  It was up there with the best Sunday Roasts in Perth that’s for sure.  Very tasty gravy, well cooked meat and veg and not dry!
I was delighted when I saw they offered a Low Gluten Sticky Date Pudding, with caramel sauce and ice cream… OMG! So good and such a treat for m.

Events, Atmosphere & Community Feel

There’s often something happening at The Basso — from live sport in the sports bar to family‑friendly events and weekly specials. The layout allows you to choose your preferred atmosphere: lively and social, or quiet and tucked away.  During our stay we had live music outside and there were several games on the big screens inside.

Multiple function spaces, including a rebuilt balcony and private rooms, make it a strong choice for milestone celebrations, end‑of‑season gatherings or family parties. The Playground is a bonus for keeping younger guests entertained.
