The Offshore Café and Bakery Review

On a recent day trip to Nambung National Park, we decided to start early and stop for breakfast in Lancelin. We went to The Offshore Café and Bakery.

Very popular with the locals and a haven for visitors in search of food, The Offshore Café has had the same owner for the past five years. Cakes and other goods are baked daily and all food is freshly made.

Management’s take on the Covid front is quite clear – check-in with the Safe WA app or its no service.

The Offshore Café is fully licensed and it’s quite a quirky place with interesting signs around. Very child friendly with a large sofa, books and a toy area inside. There is also an ice cream and candy store featuring lots of items that I haven’t seen since childhood such as Love Hearts and a candy necklace.

As it was a very windy day, we decided to sit inside but the locals are obviously used to the weather and the large outdoor area increasingly filled up while we were on our own inside.

I decided on the ham and cheese toastie ($5.50) while my husband had the bacon and eggs ($13). With our coffee and tea – our breakfast totalled $27.50. We ordered at the counter and our food was brought to our table.

As my husband had emphasised that he liked his toast very well done, he could not complain when it arrived almost black!

Both meals were served hot and were good.

But the stars of the show in this café are the cakes. The Offshore Café bills itself as a bakery and a patisserie and the pastry chef should take a bow. Beesting cakes, mud cake slices, strawberry sponge cakes, carrot cakes – they were all large and enticing. I won’t mention the calories involved, suffice to say that as we had brought a large cool box we gave in to temptation and bought two cakes for afternoon tea!
