Binningup Beach Caravan Park Review

Relaxing. Peaceful. Calm. I kept hearing these three words over and over again as our seniors’ group enjoyed a short break at Binningup Beach Caravan Park.

Binningup is a small township in WA’s south-west, about a two-hour drive from Perth.

With a population of just over 1200 and more than 40 kms of white sandy beaches, there is plenty of room for visitors to enjoy swimming, fishing, paddleboarding or whatever water activity floats your particular boat! It’s also a great base to explore the region. The Wellington Dam, Collie, Bunbury and the Ferguson Valley are all within easy driving distance.

After seeing the caravan park featured on channel nine’s Getaway programme late last year we decided to book in. Between us, we booked three powered sites  ($45 per night) and two cabins ($140 per night). After a mix up with the bookings, the two cabins were upgraded from a one-bedroom to a two and a three-bedroomed cabin, which normally costs $170 per night.

My husband and I were in a three bedroomed cabin. The cabin itself was clean, light and airy and could easily sleep seven people. There is air conditioning a television. Linen, crockery, cutlery, glassware, pots and pans are all provided. The only drawback was the parking space, which has a very narrow turning space.

Access to the beach is a five-minute walk through a locked gate. All residents are given keys to the beach gate and to the ablution blocks on arrival.

The caravan park is home to several permanent residents and is dog friendly.

There is a swimming pool that is great for a refreshing dip but up to six feet deep at one end so keep an eye on those grandchildren. A few loungers and chairs are available for the sun worshippers. There is also a jumping pillow, which I decided to not try my dodgy knees on, but several children were enjoying the jumping experience.

An on-site café was great news for the caffeine addicts in our group. The café is open for coffee, tea and cake as well as ice cream, burgers and fish and chips on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays.

The camp kitchen has three large longish tables and a couple of BBQs, a toaster, a kettle and a large sink. The ablution blocks are good but like the whole camp, a bit dated but totally functional. Lawn bowls are also available but we were so busy relaxing that we didn’t manage to get round to playing!

Yes, Binningup is a real old-fashioned caravan park – life as it used to be but it was calm, it was peaceful, it was relaxing. And we will be back.
