University of the Third Age (U3A)

U3A (UWA) is the collective name for the 10 regional groups in the Perth metropolitan area. We have been in existence for over 30 years and are supported by the University of Western Australia. We currently have more than 950 members. Membership is open to people aged over 50 years who are not working full-time.

The University of The Third Age (U3A) is an international movement, founded in 1973, which promotes and practises lifelong learning by providing low-cost educational opportunities in a relaxed and informal environment. The movement is unique in that each region chooses its own program content and its success is due to the willing participation of members.

HOW IT WORKS
U3A (UWA) in Perth is a self-managed organisation. It has links with other U3A groups throughout WA, Australia and the World and gains support from government and educational establishments. Most learning opportunities are provided by members but we have an extensive list of volunteer tutors and course leaders who support our goals. Most of our tutors are members who provide information on a wide range of interesting topics. The U3A (UWA) Council comprises of members who offer their skills and time to coordinate and support the Perth network.

WHAT WE OFFER
Throughout the year we run study groups, occasional workshops and seminars, lectures and various social and educational outings. Members of U3A (UWA) are eligible to participate in activities in the 10 regions, subject to availability. CITY COURSES are offered during the daytime at the State Library and Citiplace Community Centre and run fortnightly or monthly between March-June and August-November. Typically, there are up to 30 courses spread throughout the regions. New courses are offered where there is a demand. Members can participate in as little, or as many, activities as they wish.

We publish a quarterly INFORM magazine which is distributed to all members and is full of interesting articles and details of regional programs, courses and group activities.
