Augusta Bakery

If you’ve ever driven into Augusta with a vague plan and a hungry tummy, you probably ended up at Augusta Bakery, like us! For something fresh, easy, tasty, and worth hopping out of the car for, you can’t go too far wrong with Augusta Bakery.

Found in a pale blue cottage, on the main drag (Blackwood Avenue), it’s the sort of local bakery that becomes part of your holiday routine. We were there nearly every day, for one thing or another (lunch, fresh loafs of bread etc).

Augusta Bakery is a proper, no-fuss bakery experience. You wander in, queue (if you visit in peak summer holidays like us), scan the cabinets for savoury and sweet possibilities, and then face the hardest decision of what on earth to order? Ther is A LOT of choice. They have all the country bakery classics (custard slices, lamingtons, jam cream doughnuts). Visitors on Tuesdays will even enjoy a Senior Card discount!

First up, the pies are very tasty. Chunkier/meatier than your average and there’s plenty of choice. My family went crazy for the beef brisket and jalapeño pie, and the chunky beef, cheese, and bacon was a massive hit too. With over 15 types of pies (including curry lamb and veggie pasties), sausage rolls, pasties and a small Gluten Free selection, everyone is happy.

There’s salads and fresh cut fruit for those wanting a healthier option. Plus, a few of those trendy treats you usually only find in Perth – cruffin anyone?!

If you’re doing a day trip, it’s the perfect pit stop before a beach visit. We grabbed our haul and drove three minutes down to Flinders Bay beach for an easy picnic under the pine trees with a view.

Want to linger longer? Grab a coffee and something warm, and sit for a moment in the casual dining area. You can even spot the Hardy Inlet from here. Small-town bakeries have a good vibe – everyone’s relaxed, nobody’s rushing, and the simple stuff tastes extra good.

Sometimes you just need a friendly hello, a flaky pastry situation, and the promise of a no fuss spot.
