Oceans 27, Alkimos

Perth’s northern suburbs aka The Sunset Coast sure do live up to their name! The outer northern suburbs, those new housing estates north of Mindarie are dotted with ocean-view pubs and restaurants. Oceans 27 is popular with the Alkimos locals, who come for the food, drinks and great views!

Recently, we headed to Oceans 27 for a late afternoon drink. Overlooking the Indian Ocean, at the Shorehaven estate, this restaurant is very popular. And you may even spy the area’s namesake, the supposedly haunted Alkimos shipwreck, poking out from the waves.

The outdoor area offers a variety of seating, including comfortable chairs under umbrellas. Inside, there are tables by the open kitchen.

We sat in the lawn area, under a shady umbrella. From here, you can enjoy beach view as well as the rusty remains of the SS Alkimos shipwreck, after which the suburb is named. The ship ran aground in the 1960s is said to be cursed, with a very colourful history and it’s believed to be haunted.

Oceans 27 is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. On the menu there’s options like steak, pasta, pizza, burgers, share plates and salad.

We did not eat here on this day, but I have enjoyed an epic platter or two here in the past. Oceans 27 showcases live music on the weekends, so always has a lively atmosphere.

Very close to Oceans 27 is the Shorehaven Treasure Island Adventure Playground, which is a must for grandchildren. There are also shaded bbq areas and beach access as well as a large, grassed area for the kids to let off some steam and the adults to work off lunch.

Parking is right next door and both the restaurant and its restrooms are wheelchair accessible. If you are looking for a beachside venue with a laid-back vibe, Oceans 27 could be your perfect spot.
