The Pavillion at The WACA Ground, East Perth

The beloved WACA Ground has opened the biggest development in its storied history. If you’re looking for a day out that’s easy, central, and genuinely pleasant The Pavilion at the WACA is a terrific option. While it may be busy on weekends with families checking out the new water park, we think that mid-week it will be a brilliant spot to meet friends.

It’s one of those places that works for so many different kinds of outings: grandparents with grandkids, couples who want a relaxed coffee, a morning swim overlooking the hallowed WACA wicket, or anyone who likes the idea of a community-style venue where you can relax, keep fit, or both.

The big drawcard is how much is packed into the one spot. You’ve got swimming pools, a splash park and waterslides (which the kids will make a beeline for), and you’ve got the tasty Wirin Café. Meet a friend, grab a drink, and enjoy that relaxed, outdoorsy Perth feeling with a central location.

A state-of-the-art gym is not just for the professional cricketers. The general public can join as a member and enjoy the facilities (with view of the ground), as well as Pilates classes and more.

The infinity style lap pool is heated, so you can swim or walk year-round. The 8-lane 50m outdoor pool looks right onto the ground, so in theory, you could watch a Sheffield Sheild game here! There is ramp access, and multi lanes for serious swimmers, or those who just want a casual dip.

There’s a little shade around with benches down one side of the pool and also at the end of the pool where there are a few sun loungers. Plus, there’s an indoor heated pool for year-round swimming lessons. And of course there are modern, clean changing facilities.

All ages, from toddler to teens will love the splash park (open seasonally). Featuring a giant tipping bucket, spraying water at regular intervals (always a crowd favourite), plenty of water sprayers, interactive water cannons and small slides too. There are a few steps involved, but the shallow play element is great for young children.

For the bigger kids (and brave adults!) climb the stairs to two epic water slides: ‘The Spinner’ is a cricket-ball-themed inflatable raft slide that is so much fun, and can be ridden solo, or with two on the raft. ‘The Quick’ is exactly what it sounds like: a fast, solo slide for the thrill-seekers.

Wirin Cafe, found street-side, has a really delicious brunch offering. You could say I was ‘bowled over” by it! Named after the Noongar word for “spirit”, Wirin leans into that with many native West Aussie ingredients. Coffee is by Karvan, one of my favourite local roasts. The menu is built around fresh, seasonal West Aussie produce; think simple dishes done thoughtfully and plated with flair.

A few (sample sized) dishes we enjoyed:

  • Avo bruschetta on hash brown.
  • Eggs Royale, Geralton Wax cured salmon with poached eggs, and a pepperberry hollandaise (with a real kick!).
  • The Wirin Croffle (croissant waffle) with Korean fried chicken, maple syrup, fried salt bush and a cashew crumb.

For cricket buffs, there is a museum coming soon.

The Pavilion is so affordable. Admission costs correct at March 2026 is: Casual entry is just $8 for adults and $6.20 for kids (under 5s are free), with a family pass costing only $22. Getting to the WACA is easy. Either drive in and park in the nearby paid car park (opposite Queens Gardens), or hop on the train and catch a free CAT bus.
It’s a marvellous way to spend a sunny day in Perth!
