City of Joondalup Libraries offer adults of all ages exciting opportunities for social engagement, further education and self-development through a variety of innovative events, presentations and programs.
Some of the programs are run on a regular basis, others occur at irregular intervals. They can also occur in the morning, afternoon or evening, depending on the specific requirements and criteria. The overall aim is to provide a range of events to give a taste of something for everyone.
Book Clubs
Discover new authors and expand your knowledge in a friendly and social environment. Engage in discussion and sharing of ideas with like-minded people.
Book clubs are a great way to expand the range of books you read, meet new people and develop your communication skills by participating in lively book discussions.
The Library provides the venue, tea and coffee and the book (for a $6.00 hire charge), which includes reading notes to assist with the book discussion. The 12 book club members choose from a list of over 600 titles, which includes classic literature, fiction, non-fiction, children’s literature, biographies and many award winning titles. New titles are always being added to this list.

Live and Learn
Live and Learn is a monthly presentation held at Joondalup Library for older adults. Come along and listen to a speaker, learn something new, participate in a discussion or simply be entertained. There are:
- Author visits;
- Light-hearted talks on travel and personal adventures;
- Gardening;
- Cooking; and
- Talks on war, environmental and health issues, plus much more.
It’s also a great opportunity to meet people over morning tea, in a relaxed environment.
Live and Learn is held on the third Thursday of every month, at 10.00am at the Joondalup Library. Sessions cost $2.00.Bookings are essential. For further information contact the City on 9400 4761.
Games in the Library
Joondalup Libraries have a range of games available for patrons to enjoy. They are for use in the libraries only and can be borrowed for the whole day if desired.
Games available include Scrabble, Mahjong, Chess, Yahtzee, Rummikub, Canasta, and many more. So why not bring a friend or two to a local library and enjoy the challenge? Bookings are not required.
Game On
Games are a great way to meet new people, stimulate the brain, and have some fun, in a friendly atmosphere. Game On is held on the first Thursday of the month at Joondalup Library, from 10.00am -12.00noon. Games include Scrabble, Chess, UpWords, Cribbage, Backgammon, Sequence, Boggle as well as card games and much more. Cost is $2.00 and refreshments are provided. Book online or call 9400 4751.
Mahjong
Mahjong has become a very popular pastime in recent years. It is a fascinating and challenging game and will help keep the brain active while having fun. Everyone is welcome on the second and fourth Thursday mornings of each month and sessions are also held every Friday afternoon for those more experienced players. Writers’ Group
Interested in joining a Writers Group? Always wanted to write but need some inspiration? Would you like to be with similar-minded people?
The Joondalup Library Writers’ Group meets twice a month on a Sunday afternoon, over a cup of tea or coffee to pursue and support each other in their writing endeavours.
The aims and objectives of the group are to share work, give and receive feedback, provide support and motivation, share ideas and expand and develop the craft of writing.
Homework is set each month and there is an exercise to do at each session.
Cost is $3.00 per session.

Knitting Groups
Looking for ways to meet new people, create community craft projects, knit for charity or simply complete your own knitting work in the company of fellow knitters? Then join a casual and creative knitting session in a friendly atmosphere. Beginners welcome.

Camera Club
The aim of the Joondalup Library Camera Club is to assist members to improve their photographic skills and techniques by submitting regular works, through challenges, workshops and outings.
The members are expected to share the opinions of peers through open, positive feedback and conversation in a relaxed atmosphere with like-minded people.

Criminal Profiling Club
The purpose of the Joondalup Library Criminal Profile Club is to provide an opportunity for members to get together with like-minded people to share their interest in crime and criminals, the reasons people commit crimes and to study the personal profiles of criminals.
The group is facilitated and meet monthly on a Saturday morning.

Books on Wheels Service
This is a free service that caters for older adults who, due to frailty or limited mobility, are unable to reach their public library. The service may also be used by people who have health problems, disabilities or those who are temporarily immobile.
