Join us for a guided walk through Piney Lakes Reserve with Rickeeta Walley, exploring Bunuru, the season of adolescence.
Join us for a guided walk through Piney Lakes Reserve with Rickeeta Walley, as we explore the Noongar season of Bunuru, the season of adolescence which is marked by the Gum, Marri and Jarrah flowering. The hottest and driest season of the Noongar calendar, Bunuru typically lines up with the calendar months of February and March and is referred to as the second summer. Local birds are particularly active at this time of year as they enjoy the ripe nuts and seeds of jacaranda, sheoak and native trees.
Meeting at the City of Melville EcoHub, your journey begins with a relaxed walk through the reserve. There will be plenty of stops for yarning and questions, as Rickeeta shares insights on the cultural significance of the land, the six seasons, and the traditional uses of native plants.
