City of Melville Native Plant Giveaway
April 26 @ 12:00 am - 12:30 am
The City of Melville has partnered with Apace Nursery to provide 520 households with 10, free, locally native plants valued at $60. This year, we’re trialling a fairer selection process through an Expression of Interest and a lottery system to ensure that everyone has an equal chance to participate.
How do I participate?
- Register for a ticket to express your interest in the giveaway. Please remember that plants are limited and people do miss out. Only register if you are commmitted to collecting your plants.
- Only one ticket will be accepted per household. Additional tickets for the same address will be deleted. Proof of address will be required upon collection.
- After the registration period ends, 520 tickets will be randomly selected to recieve plants. Only ticketholders who were selected through the random draw will be notified and provided with details about how to collect their plants.
- Please note that the Expression of Interest is not first-come, first-served—everyone who has registered has an equal chance to be selected.
- Households selected through the random draw will be able to choose from a variety of plants available at APACE during the pickup period.

Why is it ticketed?
Ticketing allows us to track interest and adjust our promotion. It also ensures that everyone has an equal opportunity to recieve plants, rather than just those that register first.
Registration Period: Tuesday, 1 April to Friday, 25 April
Notification Period: Monday, 28 April to Friday, 2 May
Pickup Period: Three weeks in May. Specific dates will be provided to those ticketholders selected in the random draw.
Pickup Location: Apace Nursery, 1 Johannah Street, North Fremantle
Planting local:
Planting local native plants has many benefits including the provision of food sources and habitat for native wildlife. Local native plant species (that is plants that occur naturally on one of five soil types within the Swan Coastal Plain) require little to no soil amendments and minimal watering.
There are two main soil types in the City of Melville, being the Karrakatta and Bassendean Soils. To the very west of the City there is a strip of Cottesloe Soil and a small patch of Herdsman Soil in the south eastern section of Kardinya. For more information about native plants and creating habitat suited to your area check out the APACE suburb selector, Waterwise Plant tool by Water Corporation, ReWild Perth, or River Guardians Grow Local Plants Brochures.
ReWild Perth is a great resource for advice on choosing plant species for your area and to support specific wildlife.
