I’ve Never Seen A Straight Banana

In 1975, a young Geoffoire from rural New Zealand rented a room from 82-year-old Effie Fellows, a retired vaudeville star celebrated for her daring “boy impersonator” act. Their brief time together left an impression he didn’t fully understand—until fifty years later, when rediscovering Effie’s story sparks a creative awakening. As Geoffoire prepares a performance that mirrors hers, he’s forced to face the boundaries he’s built around identity and self-expression. Blending memory, music, and courage, the film explores how one woman’s audacity continues to echo across generations.
