oin Australia Day Honours List 2024 jeweller, art and design historian, curator and independent academic Dr Dorothy Erickson AM as she discusses highlights from her book series Inspired by Light and Land: Designers and Makers in Western Australia.

Dorothy has held over forty solo exhibitions across Australia, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas, and is represented in prestigious collections such as the V&A, Swiss National Museum, National Gallery of Australia, Dallas Museum of Art and Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim. She has published a number of significant books on Western Australian art and design.

Dorothy’s talk will be centred around highlights from her books Inspired by Light and Land: Designers and Makers in Western Australia volumes one and two. We encourage those attending to bring photos or if appropriate objects from their own collection made by Western Australian designers and makers to share. Some suggested names include embroidery by Majorie Coleman, ceramics Flora Landells (hand painted or otherwise), Amy Harvey, Marina Shaw, Wembley Ware, Darbyshire, silversmith Jamie A Linton…

July’s Pages and Perspectives~ Book Club read is Secret Agent, Unsung Hero by Peter Dowding and Ken Spillman.

Happening 3 July, club members are responsible for sourcing their own books before each session. We have partnered with local bookstore Typeface in Applecross, who are generously giving club members 10% off book club purchases. Melville Libraries also have limited copies of each book. This event will take place inside the Wireless Hill Museum with refreshments, small bites and prompt questions provided.
