Pages and Perspectives~ May History Speaks
May 20 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
FreeAs part of our on going series Pages and Perspectives: History Speaks each month we invite you to join us each month to hear from a author or speaker exploring different aspects of Western Australia’s history.
Bret Christian has been a newsman all his working life, beginning his career on the Perth Daily News, and working in Melbourne and Sydney before returning to Perth to write a daily newspaper column. He started his own suburban Post Newspapers group in 1977. His interest in police investigations gone wrong led him to unearthing many extraordinary injustices, some of which he helped put right. His successful book on the subject, Presumed Guilty, was published in 2013. Bret lives by the sea at Cottesloe with his partner, Jane, where they have raised six children and more pets than they can count. He is still a reporter for his newspapers, and, compelled by his Viking roots, spends his spare time in and on the ocean.
June’s Pages and Perspectives Book Club read is Bauhaus on the Swan: Elise Blumann, an émigré artist in Western Australia, 1938-1948 by Sally Quin.
Happening 5 June, book members are responsible to source their own books before each session. We have partnered with local bookstore Typeface in Applecross, who are generously giving club members 10% off book club purchases. Melville Libraries also have limited copies of each book. This event will take place inside the Wireless Hill Museum with refreshments, small bites and prompt questions provided.
