Quenda and Us: Living Together

Join Dr Catherine Baudains at Mandurah Museum for an engaging and informative presentation on one of our most charming local marsupials — the quenda (southern brown bandicoot).
In this session, Dr Baudains will delve into the fascinating biology and behaviour of the quenda, shedding light on their role in the ecosystem and the many challenges they face in our rapidly changing environment. Despite widespread habitat loss and urban development, these small but resilient creatures continue to survive — often in surprising places close to our homes.
Learn how quenda adapt to living in suburban areas, what threats they face from introduced predators, road traffic, and human activity, and how local conservation efforts are helping protect their populations. Most importantly, discover practical ways we can all help support quenda survival, from backyard habitat tips to community action.
The presentation will conclude with some fun and interactive quenda-themed games — a great opportunity to test your new knowledge and enjoy learning as a group. Whether you’re a wildlife enthusiast, student, parent, or simply curious about our native fauna, this event offers something for everyone.
