The Gravity Discovery Centre and Observatory (GDC), was established in 1998. The centre was established to showcase Einsteinian physics with exhibits that inform and educate about the search for Gravitational waves, predicted by Einstein 100 years ago.
Following the discovery of gravitational waves, in September 2015, the GDC and Observatory now provides further credibility, for the Wheatbelt area and Western Australia, as a tourist facility and leader in science research and development.
Located in Yeal, Western Australia, it is set in a natural bushland and boasts an impressive wildflower display from September to January.
The GDC is the key facility of the Gingin Science Precinct which includes the GDC Observatory, the Zadko Telescope, AIGO, University of Tasmania Dust Particle Research and Geoscience Australia Geomagnetic Observatory.
The GDC is a cultural centre with strong links to the Noongar people and Aboriginal art features in the Cosmology Gallery. It is a popular tourist destination, an exciting, fun family friendly centre and home to the famous Leaning Tower of Gingin, Cosmology Gallery and the Western Australian SKA radio astronomy exhibition.
The GDC Observatory runs every Friday and Saturday night throughout the year. There are an array of different telescopes at the observatory, through which you will get up close views of different celestial targets, such as the moon, nebula, clusters, galaxies and more. The GDC and Observatory is focused, through friendly, informed staff, on providing a unique and fascinating place to visit.
