Saint Aidan Wines, Ferguson

If you’re exploring the beautiful Ferguson Valley, a visit to Saint Aidan Wines is an absolute must. Named for the historic church right next door, this cellar door offers a wonderful winery experience – particularly if you’d like to pair a tasting with lunch. We were staying nearby and just had to drop in for lunch on a rainy Wednesday. Many of the region’s wineries and breweries are closed mid-week, so we were delighted to find this open, and quite busy!

The setting is just gorgeous, with lush vineyards and a dining room overlooking lush green lawns. It’s a family-run winery, and you can really feel that personal touch in everything they do, from the warm welcome you receive to the passion they have for their wines.

Their cellar door is a lovely spot to enjoy a tasting. They produce a range of wines, from crisp whites to rich reds, and there’s plenty of interesting drops to try. The staff are knowledgeable and happy to guide you through the different varietals, sharing stories about the winemaking process. Even if you’re not a big wine connoisseur, it’s a lovely way to spend an hour or two, learning a bit, lunching and enjoying the peaceful surroundings. I’m a chardy drinker, so opted for one of their 3 Chardonnays and I really enjoyed it.

Beyond the wine, Saint Aidan also has a very tasty restaurant that serves up delicious, seasonal dishes, often featuring local produce. It’s the perfect complement to their wines. Whether you’re after a light lunch or a more substantial meal, the food is fresh and beautifully presented. We were there for a light bite, so opted for brisket sliders with smoky cheese, zesty relish, crunchy pickles, and a fresh salad. I really enjoyed the popcorn chicken bites.

We both really relished our dishes and would definitely return for something more substantial in future.

It’s a place where you can slow down, savour the moment over a vino, and appreciate the beauty of the Ferguson Valley region. Saint Aidan Wines offers a wonderful blend of delicious wine, great food, and a friendly atmosphere – definitely add it to your Ferguson Valley itinerary.
