When picking a holiday stay, I generally have one rule – it needs to be better than my own cosy house, to feel like I’ve escaped and am enjoying a little bit of luxury. If you’re craving a classic South West escape with a touch of luxe, Flinders View Beach House in Augusta is a holiday home to pop on your radar. Bookable through local site Experience Augusta, this newly refurbished, beach house-style holiday home makes the most of Augusta’s stunning coastline.

Before you fall in love with this house, as I did, you’ll need to know that its layout is “upside-down”, meaning the main bedroom and living areas are upstairs. There is quite a bit of stair climbing involved – which may be a physical consideration you need to make.

The hero of the house is absolutely the upstairs balcony. It offers some of the best panoramic views in Augusta – the blue outlook that makes you want to linger with a cuppa in the morning, and a glass of local wine in hand come sunset. It’s just a two-minute wander down the street to a beach, and beautiful Flinders Bay, so you can easily fit in a stroll along the sand without even getting in the car.

Upstairs is light and open, with a modern kitchen. You’ll find a big fridge and freezer, dishwasher and most basics that you’ll require (though I did have to buy cling film).

There’s a breakfast bar and dining area (seating 8), that flows into a big, comfy lounge. There’s a TV, if you can tear your eyes from that view. Throw open the doors to that balcony, fire up the BBQ, and you’ve got the perfect spot to relax after a day exploring.

The king master suite is also upstairs, you’ll have to excuse my bed photos, hastily taken as we left the home. As expected, all beds were made and the house was spotless when we arrived. The bed was comfy, but firm. The blinds don’t keep out much light, so if you’re not an early bird, pack an eye mask.

The master bedroom has an oversized walk-through robe (with plenty of coat hangers) which leads to the private ensuite, plus a separate powder room – very handy if you’re sharing the space with family. The ensuite is large, well-lit and incudes a double vanity and shower.

Downstairs you’ll find three more bedrooms (one queen bed and four singles) and a second, spacious lounge – ideal for the grandkids to spread out with a movie on one of the two smart TVs. There’s a family bathroom, plus a laundry with washer, dryer and an extra powder room. Outside, an outdoor fire pit can be used when conditions and fire bans allow (wood isn’t supplied but can be purchased in town).

There’s ample parking on a gravel driveway and space for a small boat, and the home is non‑smoking with a no‑pets policy. Total occupancy is capped at six people (with requests to increase to eight considered). For older couples, or grandparents holidaying with the family, Flinders View Beach House offers a comfortable, well-appointed base with million-dollar views. I’d absolutely stay in the beautiful blue beach house again.
