Sa Bella Estate, Metricup

Sa Bella Estate Metricup

Sa Bella Estate, in Metricup, is an off-grid escape with all the comforts of home. If you’ve ever dreamed of disappearing to the country without giving up your creature comforts, Sa Bella Estate might be your kind of getaway. Set on 100 secluded acres of natural beauty, this gorgeous sea container cabin feels tucked away, yet still manages to have all the things that make a stay easy, comfortable and seriously relaxing.

This is off-grid accommodation, but not in the “roughing it” sense. Sure, it’s in a converted sea-container, but still functioning like a proper home, complete with a full kitchen, dishwasher and washing machine. So you can enjoy the peace and simplicity of nature without sacrificing hot showers, a comfy bed and the conveniences that make a short break feel effortless rather than hard work.

Inside, the cabin is cosy and thoughtfully laid out, with a queen bedroom (the bed is on the softer side, but comfortable), separate bathroom, and a spacious kitchen and lounge area in between. There’s an indoor fireplace for chilly evenings, but we didn’t feel that we needed to use this during our mid-May stay. The sea container must be well insulated.

We relaxed on the sofa and watched a little TV. You’ll need to be a bit “tech-y” to do this as you’ll have to cast from a device (mobile or laptop) to the TV, via your app like Netflix, Kayo, etc.

The kitchen is well equipped, though I found a lot of plates and mugs high up in cupboards. There’s tea and coffee facilities, and even a cool weather station too.

Outside is where Sa Bella Estate really shines. The large deck takes in sweeping farmland views, making it the perfect spot for a lazy breakfast, a glass of local wine, or simply sitting still and soaking up the quiet.

There’s also an outdoor bathtub, which feels like one of those extra special little holiday luxuries. Add an outdoor fire pit, and you’ve got the kind of setting that makes it very easy to slow right down. It’s worth noting that you’ll need to take the wheelbarrow for a spin and find your own wood to use in the bush.

During your stay, you can explore the 100 acres, including farmland, streams and bushland. There’s a dam for a refreshing summer swim, and bushland to wander through if you feel like stretching your legs.

You’ll probably spot a roo or two from the deck at dusk.

Another big plus? It’s only 2.5 hours from Perth, so it feels like a real escape without the long haul. Plus, it’s close to the main winery region of Margaret River, making it a lovely base for wine tasting adventures. One of our favourite casual lunch spots, Beerfarm, was just minutes away, and Island Brook Estate.

Sa Bella Estate is peaceful, very private and a place that makes you wonder why you don’t do this far more often.

You can book Sa Bella Estate on Air Bnb.
