Join our 90-minute travel writing workshop and Q+A with local writer, creative mentor, and narrative therapist-in-training, Cassie Wilkins.
Whether you dream of seeing your words in the world, articulating your odysseys and explorations, or are simply curious about the art of storytelling, this interactive workshop will offer insight, inspiration, and practical tools to help you bring your experiences to life.
Like travel itself – which can range from meandering around your neighbourhood to traversing the world – travel writing can take many shapes. Drawing on two decades of experience, Cassie’s journey has spanned the world and the industry: from her origins as a travel writer to spending six years globetrotting and writing for global publications and tourism boards, before settling in for a slower season of road trips, ghost towns, and book writing.
From books to blogs and magazines to memoirs, we’ll explore topics including:
- The how, what, where, why, when, and who of travel writing
- The different forms travel writing can take, and where yours might best fit
- Shaping “I did this” or “I went here” into something with depth and substance
- Discovering your “secret sauce” and leaning into the stories only you can tell
- Developing a voice and style that feels authentic and engaging
- Practical insights into pitching, proposals, and publishing
The session will include time for sharing, questions, and discussion, along with a take-home workbook and guided writing exercises. All experience levels are welcome.
