Valley of the Giants, Walpole

Valley of the Giants

One of the Great Southern’s most popular attractions, the Valley of the Giants, is found in beautiful forests near Walpole. Elle McPherson famously visited the tree top walk when it was opened in the 1990s, and it is well worth a visit. There is an entrance fee for the tree top walk. However, it is free to visit the Ancient Empire Walk, interesting Discovery Centre and to browse the gift shop.

Valley of the Giants

The Valley of the Giants has been created amongst ancient, rare red tingle trees. Found within an easy drive of both Walpole and Denmark, you can easily spend a few hours exploring. At the Tree Top Walk, people can actually experience walking through the canopy of the tingle forest. From the highest point, you can enjoy grand views from a unique perspective.

At 600 meters long, the Tree Top Walk is accessible by most people – unless you have a fear of heights! At some points the metal walkways are 40 meters high, and they do move a little. There are no steps, just a gentle, sloping climb up a lightweight metal bridge. This makes it suitable for wheelchairs (you can hire free wheelchairs onsite).

The Ancient Empire Walk is also brilliant. Lots of information boards provide interesting facts about the local forests. A boardwalk winds around the base of ancient trees, you can even walk through the stump of an old tree!

Afterwards, take a wander around the Wilderness Discovery Centre. The interactive exhibit has lots of fascinating facts about the native wildlife, plants and insects surrounding the Tree Top Walk.
