Pedal and Petal Tour, Kings Park

GoGo Active Tours - Kings Park Wildflower Bike Tour.

During the Kings Park Wildfower Festival in September GoGo Active Tours run a 2 hour Pedal and Petals bike tour through the bush paths of Kings Park to see the wonderful wildflowers.

My friend and I recently joined a group of riders for this tour. We meet at the meeting point in the car park near Aspects gift shop just before 9.30am where we were greeted by our friendly guides for the ride. They matched us with a bike and adjusted the seats to each person. The bikes have a bottle holder for your water bottle and a zip bag at the front that can hold phone, keys etc. leaving your hands free for the ride. They also fitted us with helmets or if you have you can bring your own.

The tour started promptly at 9.30am with a quick overview of how to change gears, which gears to use when, and quick reminder of road rules and the hand signals Kevin would be using. We were also provided with a little history of Kings Park and given a sheet with pictures of the flowers we would be seeing. Then we were off.

We had 5 riders in our group plus the guides. There was always a guide in the front of the group and at the end so no one was left behind. The riding between stops was generally quite short and your could ride at your own pace. At each stop, you had the chance to dismount and look around the area while being shown flora hotspots.

At each stop, the guides would show us flowers or other points of interest usually with a bit of information or history included. They gave information on the history of the park and the flora, uses of plants and regrowth after fires among other things. Both guides were informative and open to questions from the group.

The tour takes in some of the bush pathways that you might not have explored before and also passes the vibrant everlasting display on the way back.

The ride concludes back at the starting point which is conveniently located near the kiosk for refreshment if needed. Both my friend and I were a little worried about riding for 2 hours as we are not regular bike riders but we found the bikes very comfortable and easy to ride and as the distance between stops is fairly short we didn’t get tired. There are a few small hills on the tour but you can walk these if you want to.

With this years rainfall the wildflowers are abundant and the bush around Kings Park is looking very pretty at the moment. Of course, after the tour you can explore the park more and enjoy some of the cultured displays too or enjoy some of the other activities taking place for the Wildflower Festival.
