ANZAC Day Services in Perth
ANZAC Day is a solemn time to remember those who gave their lives in past wars. Check out our list of ANZAC-themed events around Perth including parades, services, breakfasts and more. There’s sure to be something to suit everyone.
2021 is the RAAF’s 100th birthday – a magnificent landmark! As a result, this year’s theme is Flying Into a New Era: 100 Years of RAAF.
With this theme in mind, there may be Flypasts performed by the RAAF.
With the current climate of COVID-19, please check the event details before attending as circumstances may change. Please take care to observe hygiene guidelines and any government advisories.
ANZAC Day at Home
In addition to the traditional ANZAC events, last year’s hugely successful driveway service will also be encouraged. This enables those who are unable to attend a traditional commemorative service to take part at home.
So, if you cannot attend a service or a breakfast, why not make some lanterns the day before, and then put them out with the kids on ANZAC Day to show your support? All you need are clean milk bottles, permanent markers, and either some tealight candles or battery-operated candles.
On the other hand, you can also make your own poppies from craft supplies at home. Use a number of them to display your own wreath. All the instructions to construct your own are on the ANZAC portal here.
State War Memorial Dawn Service
The ANZAC Day Dawn Service at the State War Memorial in Kings Park starts at 6 am on April 25, 2022.
People are encouraged to arrive from 5am onwards. Lights out are at 5.50 am for silence before the service begins.
Public Transport services usually start at 4.30 am. It is strongly recommended that you take public transport as parking is very limited. It’s free for current and returned service personnel wearing their uniforms, campaign ribbons or medals to any ANZAC Day commemorative event.
Details, including road closures, will be listed on this web page closer to the event.
Gunfire Breakfast
This is held at Government House Gardens on St Georges Terrace, from 7 am – 9 am and is open to everyone to enjoy camaraderie with the Veteran community. The event is supported by Rotary WA, who serve tea, coffee, and bacon-and-egg rolls.
ANZAC Day Parade
The traditional ANZAC Day Parade starts at 9 am from the corner of Barrack Street and St Georges Terrace. Moving east along St Georges Terrace, the parade passes the Saluting Dias before turning right onto Victoria Avenue and dispersing on to Langley Park. A sausage sizzle will be provided by The Salvation Army.
Information about the Order of March, route map and parking, or other frequently asked questions will be available on this page closer to the event.
The media are asked not to try to interview veterans while they are marching or being transported in jeeps and vehicles during the March.
Commemorative Service
Perth Concert Hall, 11:00 am. This is a FREE event, with all welcome to attend. This is a ticketed event, please note that the venue will not have assigned seating and as a result, guests will be seated in order of arrival.
This year’s program includes the Salvation Army Perth Fortress Band and the ANZAC Day Choir, brought together from the Perth Modern School Chamber Choirs and Perth Modern School Alumni Singers.

Light up the Dawn
The onset of COVID 19 and the cancelation of the ANZAC Day Commemorative Services due to lockdown in 2020, inspired the community driveway dawn service.
In 2021 the Light Up The Dawn service was promoted again to encourage people who could not attend Commemorative Services to participate gathering in their driveways, on balconies, in living rooms or at farm gates throughout the State.
The candlelight vigil was extremely well supported during the depth of the Coronavirus pandemic and is now set to become a new tradition for all future ANZAC Days.
In keeping with the traditional service held at Kings Park State War Memorial, people are encouraged to start their service at 6.10am.
Details of a pre-recorded service to download, or live radio broadcasts will be available on the RSLWA website before April 25.

City of Canning ANZAC March and Service
ANZAC Day is one of Australia’s most important national occasions. It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War.
Although the Gallipoli campaign failed in its military objectives, the actions of Australian and New Zealand forces during the campaign left a powerful legacy. What became known as the “Anzac legend” became an important part of the identity of both nations, shaping the ways in which they viewed both their past and their future.
The City is proud to host a Memorial Service in partnership with the Canning Districts Sub Branch of the Returned Services League.
We invite all to watch this significant March and support our veterans, families, schools and community.
The ceremony will feature a wreath laying ceremony, please feel free to bring along your own wreath to lay.
This event will be Auslan interpreted.
Following the service complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits will be served by the Canning Lions Club and WA Sikh Association.
Seating is provided predominantly for veterans and their families, however once the Marchers are seated you may fill the gaps.
Please ensure you have downloaded the Safe WA or Service WA app prior to attending and scan the QR codes within the venue
Please bring your reusable water bottle to fill up at our water station and stay hydrated!
Consider car pooling, walking or riding your bike.
We would like to acknowledge the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation as the traditional custodians of the land and pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.
For more information, check the City of Canning website.

ANZAC Day at ANZAC Cottage
As we draw closer to our annual ANZAC Day commemorations, there are few places in Western Australia with stronger connections to the first Anzac Day than ANZAC Cottage, located at 38 Kalgoorlie Street Mount Hawthorn.
This historic cottage was built in one day by the community as a memorial to those who fought at Gallipoli and was awarded to a returned wounded soldier who was injured on April 25, 1915, Private John Porter. John was in C Company of the 11th Battalion which was one of the first groups to land at Gallipoli on that fateful day.
In keeping with these origins, the Friends of ANZAC Cottage holds an annual ANZAC Day commemoration which not only acknowledges those who fought at Gallipoli but also the community members who rallied to create this unique memorial one hundred and six years ago.
The younger generation is a cornerstone of this tribute, with a free poppy making workshop that enables children to have an active role in the ceremony. The talented bugler is a young local citizen who has been involved in this role for many years. Similarly, the flag attendant has strong links to ANZAC Cottage.
The Friends of ANZAC Cottage is keen to ensure that the “New Zealand” in ANZAC is not forgotten and this is marked by a taste of Maori culture from the fabulous Ngaru Pou group.
The day is crowned by the Sunset Service conducted at the going down of the sun. This service, the last ANZAC Day service on the Australian mainland is conducted in a respectful atmosphere backgrounded by a Western Australian sunset.
The Friends of ANZAC Cottage ANZAC Day commemorations are supported by the National Trust of Western Australia. ANZAC Cottage is managed by the National Trust on behalf of the community and the Government of Western Australia.
The Friends of ANZAC Cottage would like to thank the Heritage Council of WA for its sponsorship, allowing us to create a respectful and sincere commemoration.
On ANZAC Day, ANZAC Cottage will be open from 3.30pm to 6pm, with the Sunset Service beginning at 5.15pm. Entry is free but bookings are mandatory through Eventbrite: anzaccottageapr22.eventbrite.com.au or by calling Anne on 0411 44 55 82 or emailing friendsofanzaccottage@gmail.com.
