Boston Brewing Company Review
It had to be a leap of faith but it certainly paid off. In 2011, the Boston Brewing Company in Denmark was one of the first breweries to open its doors in the Great Southern wine region.
Itโs now one of the busiest and most popular places in the area. With a capacity of around 500, the Denmark Brew Pub has certainly made its mark. And not only in the craft beer market (numerous wins at the Perth Royal Beer Awards) but it was also voted WAโs best regional hospitality venue, by the Australian Hotels Association, in 2020.
We arrived at Boston’s on a cold, rainy afternoon about 2pm and expected to have our pick of tables. Wrong! The place was packed but luckily some customers were just leaving and our friendly server snagged us a booth beside the welcoming fire. All the staff were very affable and helpful.ย Inside dining has table service, outside diners should order at the food counter.
The brewpubโs menu includes normal pub fare such as local beef burgers, wood-fired pizzas and chicken parmis, but there are also choices for those that enjoy their pub grub upgraded.ย Pumpkin gnocchi and veg ratatouille ($23), grilled salmon ($37) and Thai pork salad ($26) were being ordered like hot cakes.
We were just looking for a snack and decided on pork belly bites ($21), Dutch chips ($14) and Fried cauliflower ($14), well two platefuls of chips but we were a group of six!
The pork belly bites were twice cooked, Korean style and were soft and delicious. Although very tasty, the fried cauliflower could have been crisper. The Dutch chips were definitely not run of the mill and were a popular choice. They come with peanut satay sauce, aioli and red onion and in a portion size guaranteed to keep the wolf from the door.
We also enjoyed a glass or two of Willoughby Park wine. The brewpub is on the grounds of the Willoughby Park winery.
Bostons is large inside but it manages to have a cosy atmosphere with booths on one wall, a long bar lining another and the open kitchen opposite the bar. Merchandise is available and the seller was doing a roaring trade. Of course, the Boston Brewing Companyโs main concern is beer and that was selling great guns as well.ย The huge beer tanks are visible from the restaurant
There is a large, outdoor play area but as it was lashing down the day we visited, it was unused. An indoor play space was keeping the children occupied. Outside areas are dog friendly as long as the pooches are kept on a leash.
Local sustainability is also important to the Boston Brewing Company, which uses fresh, local produce. Empty grain bags are used by the local parks and recreation service for invasive weed collection, spent grain is given to local farmers to feed their stock and the company makes regular donations to local community groups and sporting teams.
Expanding its brand to Perth, The Boston Brewery company opened its second brew pub in Victoria Park in 2018.
