Cirque du Soleil is back in Perth at RAC Arena with CORTEO! It’s a mesmerising experience for all ages. The show is on now, until 17 Aug, with mainly evening shows, plus a few 12pm and 4pm weekend matinées too. Walking into the arena on opening night, I felt that same surge of excitement I had last year with Luzia.

Now in its 26th year, Cirque du Soleil remains an international sensation, and CORTEO doesn’t disappoint. The show whisks you into a whimsical, dreamlike procession led by a clown imagining his own joyous funeral, with vibrant costumes, gorgeous set pieces, and a soaring score that creates a fantastical world. There are heart-stopping acrobatics, aerial artistry, comedy, and plenty of gasp-worthy “how did they do that?” moments.
I think half the magic is in the surprises, so I won’t spoil too much. My favourite moment had to be the sweet Valentina flying off with balloons. Each act is as thrilling as the last, showcasing superhuman strength, agility, flexibility, and grace, met with a few held breaths around us.

Luzia set the bar very, very high and the arena doesn’t feel quite as intimate as the magic of the big Cirque du Soleil tent.

There’s a 20-minute intermission about halfway through the two-hour show. Food, snacks, and drinks are easy to grab, there’s loads of merchandise, accessible facilities are available, and arriving early makes parking straightforward. There is underground parking at Perth Arena, but I find parking at Watertown both cheaper and easier to get out and onto the freeway, post event. It’s only a quick 5-minute walk under the freeway bridge to get there.

If you’re after an unforgettable night out, don’t miss CORTEO at RAC Arena. It’s world-class circus theatre that’s worth every fun-filled moment.
