If you love a walk + coffee combo, Claisebrook Cove’s, Kinky Lizard Cafe offers a great location for coffee enthusiasts. Found on leafy Royal Street, this East Perth spot (with random name) caters perfectly to those seeking a relaxed atmosphere, with a central location. Since the original Kinky Lizard opened in East Perth, several more mainly around the city and northern suburbs have popped up – Bayswater, Maylands, Stirling, Applecross etc.

The cafe, with plenty of indoor and alfresco seating options, is a popular brunch destination. Linger a little longer and tuck into a rich shakshuka (Turkish baked eggs), eggs benedict, fluffy pancakes or a classic avo toast.

There’s also plenty to grab and go in the cabinet – sweet slices, bagels, wraps and more.

What elevates a simple take away flat white is pairing that with a gentle stroll around Claisebrook Cove. Their good coffee is served hot enough to last a wander around the cove. Which was what I was doing on this day.

My son is fishing obsessed, so he was down on the water trying to land himself a brim.

The walking path is predominantly flat, making it accessible for those with varying mobility levels. Thoughtfully placed benches appear just when you might need a rest, offering spectacular views across the water to Optus Stadium.

The path slopes up through the beautifully landscaped Victoria Gardens and over a pedestrian bridge, towards the town houses of East Perth. Public restrooms are available nearby, and parking is plentiful enough with street parking and a couple of car parks close to the cafe entrance. I find the City of Perth spots to be much cheaper than the Wilsons car park. Whether meeting friends in a central location or enjoying a solo walk, Kinky Lizard and the nearby Claisebrook Cove offer a perfect morning out. The combo of quality coffee and easy exercise in beautiful surroundings makes this an ideal destination for those of us who appreciate life’s quieter pleasures.
