Scarborough Sunset Markets

For those seeking a vibrant culinary adventure, savour all sorts of international cuisines at Scarborough Sunset Markets, all in one spot. Think giant paellas bubbling away, crispy Korean corndogs, authentic Italian pizzas and Tibetan beef momos. Sweet tooths are not forgotten, with plenty of options including handmade Italian cannoli filled with custard. These markets, which have returned for another summer season, are located along the Esplanade and take place every Thursday until late April.

In addition to a mouth-watering line up of food trucks (the markets smell amazing!), the evening markets offer a wide selection of giftware and live entertainment. The grassy amphitheatre by the beach provides a picturesque setting for a picnic, or head over to Sunset Hill, near to the Whale Playground. It’s a special Scarborough experience, when the sun sets, people often applause!

Each week, explore a world of culinary options, from American BBQ and Asian bao, to delectable tacos, Indonesian satay, Spanish paella, and more. For beverages, there are coffee and juice vans on hand, as well as the licensed Market Bar. Visitors can check the website to discover which vendors will be parking up each week.

Sweet treat options such as handmade chocolates, ice cream, and fairy floss just skim the surface. After devouring something delicious, be sure to browse artisan stalls that offer a diverse range of products, including jewellery, clothing, homewares, and more.

Given the immense popularity of the markets (I was blown away by how crowded it was), it’s advisable to arrive early to secure a parking spot. Some people would rather snag a free spot, but if you have no luck, it’s worth remembering that there’s also paid public parking available underneath the Rendezvous Hotel (entrance next to the Lookout Bar). Public transportation is convenient, with regular bus stops at Scarborough Beach’s foreshore, some which connect with the Joondalup Train line at Glendalough.

While dogs are welcome on a leash, they are not permitted on the beach. Personally, due to the bustling nature of the markets, I wouldn’t take mine. Whether one craves savory delights or has a sweet tooth, the Scarborough Sunset Markets offer something to satisfy everyone’s taste buds, and the added bonus is there are no dishes to wash afterward.
