My, what a beautiful restaurant Bistro Guillaume is. The Crown Perth spot is by Chef Guillaume Brahimi, who some may know from his Masterchef and French Food Safari TV appearances. The modern French bistro has a bright and light dining room, with a striking green used throughout. There are spaces for both groups and intimate gatherings, dine in, or on the balcony, overlooking the Crown Metropol pool. We’re seated by the window, by the friendly French Maître d’, who offered water and shows us the menus.
We start with some freshly baked bread and butter. I enjoy a fruity mocktail, while my husband picks a glass of Margaret River red from the wine menu.
We ordered from the $55 set menu, which is a lunch and dinner special Crown put on a couple of times a year (this time it ended on Nov 25). For entrée I ate a meaty terrine, served with pickles, Dijon mustard and grilled sourdough.
My husband chose the creamy pork hock veloute (soup), filled with delicious chunks of ham.
The kingfish with cauliflower purée, shitake mushrooms, spinach and balsamic beurre noisette was cooked to perfection.
Also cooked perfectly, was the minute steak, which has to be carefully grilled or it’s easily tough and chewy. This steak cut like butter and was delicious served with chips, watercress and a red wine jus.
We were dining on the $55, 2 course menu. But wanted to finish with something sweet, so we shared a lemon tart from the regular menu.
We loved our lunch at Bistro Guillaume and found the service was spot on. Though it’s not cheap, the food is divine, and not too heavy. The restaurant is perfect for a special meal or gathering and it has a certain je ne sais quoi.
