If you are looking for a picturesque spot to park up the caravan or just for a Sunday drive, Black Diamond Lake is definitely one to visit.

Located just 5km out of Collie, it the perfect place to stop at before or after visiting the lovely town. Have a spot of lunch in Collie and then enjoy a leisurely wade in the pristine blues of this stunning body of water.Black Diamond Lake, AllansonFormally an abandoned mine from the 1940’s and 50’s, it was filled with water and is now a ‘pit lake’. It is located in the shire of Allanson. The  stunning azure colours are from the limestone in the water, which are at their showiest on a sunny day. It’s a bit of a diva lake.Black Diamond Lake, AllansonThere is plenty of parking and overflow onto the street. There were a few caravans parked up on the flatter surfaces and many campervans. Further along the carpark there are a few steep sections, so best to avoid those if you are towing heavy loads. There is no caravanning, camping or motor boating at Black Diamond Lake. You can hardly blame them, it looks like a lot of fun and makes for great photo opportunities. Which for budding photography enthusiasts, this is a perfect backdrop to shoot.Black Diamond Lake, AllansonThere are plenty of spots to dip the toes, though if you are not overly keen or able to manoeuvre yourself down low lying rock faces, try to get in early for a spot near the shoreline. Alternatively you can park and walk down the banks as many people were doing, though it is a bit of a way if you set yourself up the top, where the only bits of shade are.Black Diamond Lake, AllansonThe Lake is tested for amoeba, so do check the Collie Council website for the most updated information if you plan on swimming.If you are just visiting, it is lovely to pack a picnic and while away the hours watching all ages enjoying themselves. Don’t forget your fur baby can join in on the fun too!
