Heading to Bunbury? I’m pleased to report that a Deluxe Studio at Bunbury Hotel Koombana Bay is a good choice for southwest travellers seeking both comfort and convenience.

My partner and I were heading to a friend’s party in Bunbury and needed somewhere central and easy to sleep for the night. I was immediately side-tracked when stepping into the foyer, by a original Lotus race car that is thought to have been driven by some of the F1 greats – Sir Jackie Stewart included (I’m a big F1 fan). Check in was quick and easy and as was the lift to the second floor.

Our Deluxe Studio with water views, was clean and modern. The spacious bathroom featuring a shower and large spa bath, perfect for unwinding. This luxurious touch made our weekend feel particularly special – and it was perfect for easing travel-weary muscles. I’m no good at sitting in a car for a long time.

There’s even a desk, big TV (though sadly didn’t appear to be HD) and a small kitchenette too. Complimentary tea, coffee, hot chocolate and bottled water are included. Complimentary wifi internet access keeps you connected.

We had a good night’s sleep on the comfortable king-sized bed – though can’t comment on the pillows – we brought our own. The curtains kept the room dark, though they weren’t block-out dark.

The hotel’s central location is its standout feature. Situated on the shore of Koombana Bay, it’s just a short, flat walk to Bunbury’s CBD with its array of restaurants and cafes on the Victoria Street strip. For those who prefer to dine in, the on-site Silos Restaurant serves modern Australian cuisine and offers room service. There is also a full breakfast buffet, but we had planned on wandering into town to seek out brunch (Bennesse and the Townhouse are great).

Amenities cater well to guests, with undercover secure basement parking included. The indoor swimming pool and jacuzzi spa provide gentle exercise options without battling the sun at the nearby beach.

The close proximity to many foreshore cafes and restaurants is handy too. There’s Dome cafe, The Cray seafood restaurant, fish and chips at Aristos Waterfront (yes THAT Aristos, the TV Chef), burgers at Milky Lane and more to choose from.

At under two hours drive south of Perth, this hotel makes an ideal base for exploring the Ferguson Valley wine region without lengthy travel times. For travellers seeking quality accommodation with good amenities and a prime location, Bunbury Hotel Koombana Bay’s Deluxe Studio delivers a comfortable and enjoyable weekend escape.
