I’ve always known that I was vertically challenged but not just how short I was until I was standing next to West Coast Eagles legend Nic Naitanui and the top of my head was just about level with his elbow!
That was last year at Cranked Coffee in Leederville, which we often visit for their excellent coffee and tea. As we were in the city early one-day last week, we decided to try out their breakfast menu as well.
My husband had the Eggs your Way option – two poached eggs with two slices of sourdough ($12) plus a side of bacon ($4). I opted for the Corn and kale fritters ($16.50).
Both dishes were well presented. The eggs were poached perfectly and the toasted sourdough and delicious bacon were a hit. But there were too many conflicting flavours on my plate.
By itself the smashed avo would have been fine, the bacon was excellent and I loved the tomato relish. The fried egg, cooked sunny side up, was good but the fritters had a tang of vinegar that was slightly off-putting. Nevertheless, it was a good-sized plate of food for the price.
Cranked has been established in Oxford Street, opposite the Kailis fish market and the railway station, since 2007. A steady stream of office workers kept the barista busy and the two servers dealt pleasantly and efficiently with us and others, who had popped in for something more substantial. The café is licensed and has a good wine list.
Cranked offers indoor and outdoor dining with an emphasis on the alfresco area. It’s lovely and shaded in the summer months and it gets busy around morning tea and lunchtimes. It’s a good place to relax and have a morning brew while grandkids can enjoy playing on the café’s grassed area.
There are accessible toilets inside and accessible parking very close by however building work is currently being carried out on a nearby car park that is limiting parking options.
