Dโs Authentic Japanese is found in a serene spot in suburban Connolly. Overlooking a Japanese water garden, the dining room is the scene of organised calm with boxes to store handbags (good feng shui?) and waiters with earpieces. The popular spot used to reside in a tiny restaurant in Joondalup, opposite Gipsy Boy, which it has since outgrown.
Dining with a group of friends, we all took advantage of the lunch specials, which offer great value for money. Each of the main dishes are accompanied by fresh salad, rice and warm miso soup. On the menu thereโs lots of main dishes to choose from, teriyaki, katsu and more. Dโs Authentic Japanese is fully licenced and also offers some delicious Japanese style teas.
Food
I chose the grilled salmon teriyaki. The flavoursome marinated salmon is very well cooked and accompanied with a dressed salad, rice and miso soup. Great value at $20. Chopsticks are provided, though you are welcome to request a knife and fork if you donโt want to struggle to use them! Two people on our table were gluten intolerant and had other dietary requirements, for which they were also very accommodating.
Others on my table enjoyed grilled mackerel, and the Wagyu Teriyaki ($28).
For dessert, I devoured a fruity and refreshing raspberry sorbet, presented in beautiful hand-made bowls.
Others enjoyed a sweet homemade Wasanbon Caramel ice cream. Wasanbon is a fine grained Japanese sugar, traditionally used in high-end Japanese cuisine.
Another delicious looking dessert was the gluten free Yuzu cheesecake. The baked cheesecake is served with a tasty blackcurrant sorbet.
All in All
For anyone that lives in the Joondalup area, Dโs Authentic Japanese is easily the best Japanese spot in the north. The produce is excellent quality and the service is friendly. Keep your eye on their Facebook page for their famous tuna parties that they hold from time to time.
