Duckett’s Mill Wines Review
Duckett’s Mill Wines is a popular stop on the Scotsdale Tourist Trail in Denmark. And what goes perfectly with wine – that’s right – it’s cheese and this family-owned business is a one-stop-shop with Denmark Farmhouse Cheese on the same site. Laurie and Annette Stock together with their sons Jack and Tom have run this business since 2018. It’s a business that Annette Stock knows well having previously worked for the original owners, Ross and Dallas Lewis.
We had decided to stop for lunch on our way to Albany from Margaret River and Denmark is a great place to stop – it is a pretty town with lots of interesting shops and it has a wine and cheese place serving lunches – just what we wanted.
Duckett’s Mill specialises in platters. Ranging in price from $18 to $150 (serves 8-12 people) the platters have cheese only, served with wine or a mixture of cheeses, house-made relish, deli meats, pate, olives, sundried tomatoes and fruit.
Although the platters were very tempting, we were only looking for a light lunch and decided on toasties. Duckett’s Mill also offers sausage rolls, burgers and continental rolls.
The toastie menu is interesting – there is the Mother Clucker – triple cream camembert, smoked chicken, sliced pear and house-made quince paste ($14) or The Godfather – chilli and garlic Havarti cheese, salami, relish and sun-dried tomatoes ($9.50). But we stuck to our boring usual toasties. I had The Meltdown – ham and Havarti cheese ($8.50) and my husband had The Mousetrap – Havarti cheese only ($6.50). Only they weren’t boring – the Havarti cheese was surprisingly good and livened up the tried and true toastie formula.
We sat in a spacious, outdoor area that has wooden tables, chairs and benches that would be great on a bright summer’s day. Even on the dull day when we visited the views are good and the plant-filled area very pretty. There is also undercover seating.
Duckett’s sells all its cheeses at the cellar door and also has deli meats, nuts, chocolates, crackers, relishes, chutneys and wine accessories – all you need to make your own gourmet charcuterie board!
The 34 km long Scotsdale Tourist Trail also features the Harewood Forest Trail, Greens Pools for a relaxing swim as well as several galleries and wineries.
