HQ bar + Kitchen Review
Dinner in the city with friends last night was at HQ bar + kitchen on The Esplanade.
It’s located on the roof top of The Quay and has the most fabulous views overlooking Elizabeth Quay.
We arrived in time to have a BFG (big fat gin) on the balcony and watch the sun setting which was fab, both the gin and the sunset!
For entrees, my friend and her husband ordered the scallops which looked and apparently tasted divine.
My husband and I chose the griddled prawns, which once we’d wrestled what little prawn meat there was out of them were delicious.
My friend had the belly pork which she said was very good and her husband had the barramundi which despite not looking great on my terrible photo was superb, I had a little try of the sauce and it was gorgeous.
Both my husband and I chose the steak which was cooked just as we’d ordered, this was juicy and tasty but we thought that the accompaniments were quite unpleasant tasting, so much so that I left most of mine.
The vegetables which we ordered to share were super, crisp and fresh with a delicious Asian inspired dressing.
As I’d not eaten much of my main there was definitely room for a pud, tbh even if I’d eaten all of my main I’d still have found room!
I ordered the mango mousse flan which wasn’t so much a flan but a pot of caramel topped with creamy, fruity layers and was very nice.
My friend chose the roasted rice cake dessert, this was a taro paste black sesame gelato which she enjoyed enormously.
With all of this we had a very nice bottle of Argentinian Malbec.
Would I return?
Yes I would, next time I’d order the scallops and the barramundi along with the mixed vegetables as these were the stars of the show.
All in all it was a lovely evening with good friends and a good chat in a beautiful location.
