Miss Chow’s is another star performer at the Whitford City Entertainment Precinct. A long-established favourite in Claremont, Miss Chow’s has found a new legion of fans in the northern suburbs. The restaurant has large indoor and outdoor areas with a comfortable mix of casual seating. The outdoor area is best if you are taking your grandchildren out, as there is a play area right in front of the restaurant. Miss Chow’s is fully licensed and BYO is not available.
We visited the restaurant for a midweek late lunch. Miss Chow’s was still busy at 2pm but we managed to get a table and settled in to enjoy some of the food we could see nearby patrons tucking into.
There is a varied menu which includes Lotus chips served with seaweed ($7), Hokkien noodles ($18-$25), Carmelised spare ribs ($29) and traditional Sweet and sour meats ($28-30). Desserts include Steamed golden lava buns (2 pieces $8) and Sago pudding ($10)
We ordered Vegetarian spring rolls (4 pieces) $8, Chicken sweetcorn soup ($8), Hot and sour soup ($8), Prawn and pork steamed dumplings (4 pieces) $8 and Chicken and mushrooms pan-fried dumplings (4 pieces) $9.
The soups were very good but I don’t recommend ordering the hot and sour soup unless you really enjoy spicy food! The steamed dumplings were excellent and we were wishing that we had ordered more as we didn’t enjoy the pan-fried dumplings or the spring rolls nearly as much. Both had a very oily taste – perhaps the cooking oil needs to be changed. Not unpleasant, we just wouldn’t order them again when the steamed dumplings are on the menu.
Reasonable prices, a diverse menu and lovely steamed dumplings will make Miss Chow’s a firm favourite with our family.
