On The Border Mexican Grill, Mindarie

Looking for a vibrant spot to add a little zest into your dining experience? On The Border Mexican Grill is a lively Mexican restaurant and bar. Found in the northern suburb of Mindarie, the menu offers up a Mexican and Californian inspired fiesta for your senses.

The décor is bold – with plenty of quirks – not least a giant mural of Donald Trump peering over his precious border wall. The dining room is a fun space, adorned with sombreros, cactuses and a colourful palate. I love the cosy booths, which could easily fit six or more people.

As I looked over the menu, I sipped on a signature margaritas. Whether you prefer your margarita classic, frozen, or with a spicy twist, there’s plenty of choice. Don’t forget to try their other cocktails, Mexican beers or a refreshing glass of sangria too.

The menu is packed with Mexican favourites, from healthy burrito bowls and hearty burgers to tasty tacos with many different fillings and mouth-watering enchiladas. Each dish is prepared with fresh ingredients, ensuring every bite is bursting with flavour. For those who enjoy a bit of heat, the spicy options (chose from mild, hot or atomic!) are sure to wake up your tastebuds. Start your evening with a few share dishes. We chose the popcorn chicken with aioli, corn chips and guacamole, and mac and cheese bites with a gooey cheese sauce – all proving a big hit.

Next up, Mr H enjoyed loaded maple glazed pork belly nachos. You can also choose from beef, chicken, veggies or chilli con carne.

I chose tacos with three different fillings fish & lime dressing, steak & chimichurri and pork belly & pineapple slaw. I loved these, and that you have the option to mix and match fillings.

There was no room for dessert, though I hear their churros (Spanish doughnuts) are very popular. On The Border Mindarie is not just about food and drink; it’s about the experience. If it’s a special occasion, like a birthday, let the staff know and they’ll have the whole restaurant joining in on a “Happy Birthday”. But you don’t need a special occasion, or even a Taco Tuesday to dine here. After dinner, head next door to Off the Border. The bar has a festive atmosphere which makes it a great place to gather with friends.
