This museum opened up to the general public back in 1983 and has since become a very popular spot amongst history buffs.

This museum is run by friendly and talented volunteers who have designed, donated, and built a truly spectacular collection of aviation displays. From the meticulous restorers to the lovely gift shop attendants, the museum is proud to have hundreds of volunteers that truly care about the museum.

One of these tours is the popular “Inside Lancaster Tour’ which offers a personalised tour of both the inside and outside of the restored Lancaster bomber.

About the Aviation Heritage Museum

First of all, let’s take a moment to learn about the museum. Located in the suburb of Bull Creek, the Aviation Heritage Museum was established way back in 1979. However, it only opened to the public in 1983. This museum and its volunteers are wholeheartedly dedicated to displaying and preserving the aviation history of Western Australia.

Nowadays, the museum is home to many aircraft and thousands of aviation-related artefacts. The collection on display at this museum includes a huge range of aircraft such as civilian planes, military planes, and even helicopters. It is the largest aviation museum in all of Australia and does an excellent job of displaying both the military aircraft and the true, deep history of aviation.

The Perth Aviation Museum is open every single day of the week from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. However, this does not include Good Friday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day. Also, note that the museum may be closed if there are severe weather warnings currently in place for the Bull Creek area. This is to protect both the safety of visitors and the precious aircraft.

How to Get There from Perth and Bull Creek

The Perth Aviation Heritage Museum is situated on the corner of Leach Highway and Bull Creek Drive, Perth, 6000, Western Australia. If you plan to drive there, there is free parking available directly in front of the east side of the museum. If you’d prefer underground parking, there is underground parking available on the left side of the museum.

If you’d prefer to catch public transport, you will be happy to know that the bus stops right at the entrance. When travelling from Perth or Mandurah, alight at the Bull Creek train or bus station. Once you’re there, take routes, 506, 507, or 707 bus. These bus routes run from Bull Creek Station to Bull Creek Drive and stop directly in front of the museum.

If you’d prefer not to take the bus, walk from Bull Creek Station. The museum is only roughly 500 metres south east of the station itself off of Leach Highway. For more information on the timetables for Transperth, click here. You can also call Transperth on 13 62 13.

This museum is simply outstanding. It is very well laid out and all of the volunteers are friendly, knowledgeable, and more than happy to share stories without you about the individual aircraft. The collection itself is well-preserved and well-looked after.
