If you love the idea of strolling from the beach to the pub without needing to move the car, Pourhouse in Dunsborough is one to pop on your list. Located on Dunn Bay Road, it’s an easy wander from both the town centre and the foreshore (and where our AirBnb happened to be) – ideal if you’re staying nearby or just want a relaxed day out without too much effort.

Pourhouse has a laid-back, coastal feel – think casual, unpretentious and very Dunsborough. You can pull up a chair in your sandals, order a drink and settle in for the afternoon. The focus is on craft beer and local wines, with a rotating selection on tap and plenty of Southwest favourites to choose from. If you enjoy trying something new, it’s worth asking the staff for a recommendation – they’re usually happy to chat you through what’s pouring.

The food is much more than “just pub grub”. You’ll find good-quality, crowd-pleasing dishes that work well for both lunch and dinner. Portions are generous enough to share, or to linger over with a glass of wine. We enjoyed salt and pepper squid, and saucy BBQ ribs with crisp potatoes and slaw.
My parents both enjoyed fish and chips, and they were too hungry to pause for a photo, before starting. The crisp battered fish was fresh and full of flavour, accompanied by chips and a generous salad.

One of the big pluses for many of us is the small outdoor courtyard, which is very handy if you’re out with the dog. It’s a welcoming spot to sit outside with your four-legged friend, enjoy the sea air and do a little people-watching with a spritz in hand.

Pourhouse is relaxed, walkable (especially if you stay at neighboring Bay Village Resort) and friendly. A great option for those who enjoy good beer and wine, decent food and being close to both town and the beach, without any fuss.
