Heading to Whiteman Park? Did you know the Village Café is a very handy spot for brunch, lunch or a quick coffee before you set off to explore? You’ll find the casual spot in the village area, opposite the Visitor Centre. There’s seating inside and out, so it works well year-round. Sit outside with a coffee and watch the Whiteman Park trams rolling by. Plenty is happening all around – families on bikes, little ones racing towards the playground and the occasional tram clanging past – but it still feels relaxed.

On a sunny day, the outdoor tables are especially nice for a cuppa while you soak up the park’s atmosphere. It’s also a good option for grandparents meeting the family, as there is nearby parking and wheelchair access too.

We stopped in for brunch before a wander through the Children’s Forest and were pleasantly surprised by the all-day breakfast choices. There are the usual café favourites, including eggs benny, breakfast burgers, salads and cabinet treats, as well as plenty of takeaway options if you’re keen to keep moving.

I really enjoyed the potato hash stack, with bacon, avocado, poached eggs and a generous drizzle of hollandaise. It was a tasty, filling dish and exactly what was needed before a big day out. The coffee was good too.

Mr H ordered the big breakfast – he enjoyed it, particularly the very tasty sausages.

There’s a kids menu, if you have grandies in tow and the pancakes were a hit with all three kiddos.

If you’re after something lighter or a takeaway to enjoy picnic style, there are cakes and snacks in the cabinet, as well as cold drinks and ice creams. The café is very convenient if you’re visiting the neighboring Motor Museum, catching a tram, exploring the galleries or simply enjoying one of Whiteman Park’s many walks and picnic areas.

It can get busy around lunchtime on weekends, particularly when the weather is lovely, so an earlier visit is a good idea if you prefer a quieter table.
Village Café is a solid, no-fuss choice for refuelling at Whiteman Park. It’s relaxed, central and delicious.
