Yoga in Cabaret Cave, Yanchep

Finding zen takes on a whole new meaning when you’re practicing yoga in an ancient limestone cave! Tucked away in Yanchep National Park, The Hike Collective offers yoga with a difference – Zen in the cave. Cabaret Cave is home to what must be the most unique yoga experience in Perth – especially as it’s not open to the general public.

The cave itself has quite a history – it was once a venue for dances and social gatherings of Perth’s elite in the 1930s (hence the name ‘Cabaret’). Today, it’s transformed into a serene space with fairy lights and a smooth soundrack.

Getting to the cave is a breeze – just follow the well-marked signs through Yanchep National Park, past the pub and the Treetop Adventures. The cave entrance is large, and there’s good lighting and steps – though it’s not strictly underground. For an underground cave experience, be sure to book a tour at the nearby Crystal Cave.

Bring a yoga mat, and you may like to bring a light jumper, as the cave is cool year-round.

The session will begin with a little breathwork, and slowly ease into yoga. There’s something pretty magic about doing your sun salutations and downward dogs in this ancient space. The instructor’s voice echoes softly off the cave walls, creating an otherworldly atmosphere that really helps you focus on your practice.

Sessions run for about 45 minutes, and they’re suitable for all levels. Just remember to book ahead as spaces are limited, and arrive about 15 minutes early to get settled in. Sessions are held on Sunday afternoons, a few times a month.

After class, there are complimentary cold pressed juices to enjoy. Then, a 3.5km bushwalk through woodlands and Boomerang Gorge. All up, this experience lasts about 2.5 hours. The afternoon with The Hike Collective will finish up at the Koala Boardwalk, where you may be lucky to see one of the park’s resident koalas munching on leaves.

Other times they are snoozing high in the treetops!

Afterwards, why not pop into Chocolate Drops Tearooms or the Yanchep Inn?

Whether you’re a seasoned yogi or just curious about trying something different, this cave yoga experience is a bit spesh. It’s one of those uniquely Perth experiences that reminds us just how lucky we are to live in this beautiful corner of the world.
